This alphabet primer was initially published in 1986 and titled Quand le mot devient image (“When the word becomes an image”). It contains drawings by Jean Alessandrini. For the second edition in 2024, coordinated by Sylvain Lamy at Editions Des Grandes Personnes, the artist created new illustrations for the missing letters. This book compiles coloring, games and alphabet learning for children.

The Round typeface was chosen for its playful aspect, perfectly suiting the designer’s needs for a children’s book.

Care.com (launched 2007) is an online marketplace for families to find childcare, senior care and pet care, etc. It is also a two-sided marketplace allowing caregivers to find jobs.

The platform launched a rebrand in 2025, directed by Manual. The agency makes the whole identity revolve around three type families: the serif/sans duo Oceanic Text / Oceanic Grotesk as well as NaN Druid Sans. The wordmark itself is set in a customized (by its own designer) version of Oceanic Text, the biggest change being to switch to an asymmetrical construction for the capital C with only one serif on top, whereas the original typeface featured one serif on the bottom as well. The logo symbol is an inclusion of a lowercase c inside a capital one, invoking notions of protection and of – care. You got it.

In terms of type hierarchy, NaN Druid is mostly used for main headings, Oceanic Text for sub-headings and Oceanic Grotesk for all texts. While both Oceanic families share a gentle spirit due to the relative roundness of their structures and details, NaN Druid Sans appears frank with its humanistic (open) structure, sharp ending and slight contrast.

kaméidi kollektiv is a Hamburg-based project started by four friends who wanted to give the good old puzzle magazine a fun, youthful twist in the form of fragwürdig gazetta. Besides the classics – like picture riddles, number puzzles, and crosswords – you’ll find plenty of comics, illustrations, and short texts throughout the issue.

The whole thing revolves around this edition’s theme: sports illustrated (but in our own weird and wonderful way). The collective is made up of Janina Blum, Tim Wolff, Joana Haagen, and Lisa Pütz. Janina and Tim take care of the graphic design and layout, Joana and Lisa do the illustrations – but honestly, they all kind of do a bit of everything.

In a February 2023 interview with James Edmondson for Ohno Radio, Carolyn Minott, granddaughter of Davida designer, Louis Minott, identified this cover as her favorite use of the typeface. She found it in a Portland bookstore and was amused at imagining her grandfather, who used very proper language, seeing his type on such an explicit book.

First published in 1975 by lesbian activist and artist Tee Corinne, the Cunt Coloring Book was created as a resource for sex education. The book was reprinted by Last Gasp in 1989, adding French, German, and Spanish translations.

“In 1973 I set out to do drawings of women’s genitals for use in sex education groups. I wanted the drawings to be lovely and informative, to give pleasure and affirmation. I organized the drawings into a coloring book because a major way we learn to understand the world, as children, is by coloring. In addition to Davida, the book’s labels and headlines appear to use dry transfer lettering in Arnold Böcklin and an unidentified sans serif (perhaps a knockoff ITC Avant Garde Gothic Condensed?), with an introduction set on a typewriter using a Cubic style.

Possibly one of the strangest aspects of David Lynch’s 1984 Dune was the promotional memorabilia associated with it. The production studio behind the film seemed unsure whether to target Dune as a darker film for an older audience, or as their own attempt at a family focused Star Wars saga. Enter the Dune Coloring & Activity Books, written by Arlene Block and illustrated by Michael Nicastre.

Juxtaposing lines of Melior typical to children’s coloring books with strange illustrations of scenes from Lynch's films, the coloring book breaches the absurd.

Even more absurd is the activity book pages, featuring type with psychedelic appearing illustrations and blue text. One section features a Dune themed recipe.

Title began as an annual student magazine and remains fully devoted to empowering and utilizing creative minds. Our staff is primarily based in Cincinnati, Ohio. Now, we have the Creative Space as our digital platform, with an annual zine release in spring. Keep your eyes peeled for issue 006!

Les fabuleux cahiers (“the fabulous notebooks”) is a series of seven editions – written, designed and published by Karen and Hadrien Gliozzo / Nordsix Design Graphique. This is issue no. 1, and its all about mermaids.

NN Nouvelle Grotesk is used throughout.

Was it Chamo who wanted to tell the story of this odious and rude snake, or was it the snake who forced her to write her biography? History doesn't say it, but the album is a treat! Despite the bad character of the main character and the laziness of the author ... Yes, because you can imagine that annoyed by this rascal, she left it to the reader to complete and color the album!

The coloring book Ssserpent was written and illustrated by Chamo, using ZIGZAG and bb-book B Regular from Benoît Bodhuin. Smaller text uses Futura. The handwriting typeface is all-caps Syne Italic by Bonjour Monde and Lucas Descroix.

This Bauhaus Ballet coloring book is inspired by the Triadic Ballet. Developed by Oskar Schlemmer, it premiered in Stuttgart, Germany on 30–31 September 1922. The ballet became the most widely performed avant-garde artistic dance. While Schlemmer was at the Bauhaus from 1921 to 1929, the ballet toured, helping to spread the ethos of the Bauhaus. — Wikipedia

The font used in this project is FF Mark, a typeface rooted in the 1920s German geometry.
