Ama Terra is a bio-social farm that promotes a high quality of life through sustainable agriculture. The project was founded in 2010 by the non-profit association Cooperativa Sociale Ama Aquilone. Its protagonists are the people involved in the cooperative itself, who continue their commitment in the Piceno Hills, where the organization is based. The products created through sustainable social agriculture reflect a deep care for the environment. For this reason, Ama Terra represents a unique reality, promoting an agricultural model that encourages conscious consumption while safeguarding rural heritage, supporting the local economy, and fostering social well-being. This creates a virtuous circle connecting nature, work, territory, and social ethics. For the Ama Terra organic product line, simple and anti-ornamental labels were designed. The visual identity was developed through typography and illustration, which become the main expressive elements across the entire product line.

The illustration is based on the simplification and the abstraction to the geometric figures of the elements that constitute the oil: the leaf, the olive and the drop of oil. The various parts recompose distributing proportionally along all the front label. This geometric translation of the shapes is also recalled in typography; hence a grotesque signature was chosen, without graces, designed on the basis of geometric figures such as circles and squares. This typographic design is therefore able to guarantee a nitid and highly readable result, also in contexts hardly readable. The label is printed on textured ivory paper in four-colour process. A gold lamination ennobles the parts representing the heart of the fruit, recalling the logo of Ama Terra that is a growing grain seed.

Tre Mari is an Italian bakery and deli in Toronto’s St. Clair West neighborhood that has been open since 1960. Now in its third generation, they worked with Blok Design to reimagine their identity, packaging, and visual system.

The new identity features my typeface Condor in Compressed and Condensed widths, Displaay’s Avantt and Lineto’s LL Brown, punctuated by moments of Dinamo’s ABC Honeymoon. The logo is typeset in Ivar Headline from Letters from Sweden, with a custom head serif on the A, a featured carried forward from the bakery’s previous logo.

With this identity our goal was to bring a staple of the community forward without losing who they are. Tre Mari is very much a family business with many different characters all coming together. To express this we knew we would like a diverse typographic language and colour palette that evoked their bold, playful side while still holding their Italian heritage and strong family roots. We felt that the final identity evokes these classic elements of Italian/ European design while still feeling contemporary, fresh and bold.

Goldi is an Australian olive oil company. They sell several kind of oils in the trendy squeeze bottle format as well as in larger tin cans. After a few changes all packaging designs are now typeset in Cucina along with what appears to be custom hand-drawn lettering and illustrations made by Morten Kantsø. The Goldi logotype is set in Gaya Italic.

The irregular sans used for “Smooth” and “Punchy” probably is custom. Maryhoid is similar.

Signor Oil is a German brand with Italian roots, dedicated to high quality Apulian organic extra virgin olive oil. Founded by Denis Okore, Robert Michelone and Giuseppe Sacco, Signor Oil is based on tradition combined with passion and determination. Although the headquarters are in Berlin, their hearts remains closely linked to Puglia – the home of authentic organic olive oil.

The branding and packaging design was created by Ya Ting Yang and is using Grand Slang (Nikolas Type) for the logotype, combined with a yet unidentified sans [see comments].

Reuben and DIN Condensed were used in combination to create a fun, playful and vintage italiano feel.

CAP Beauty, the self-described “destination for the best in natural effective skincare, plant based pantry goods”, uses Wulkan alongside Futura across their own in-house products.

This extra virgin olive oil from Irpinia in Southern Italy is crafted predominantly from the native Ravece cultivar. Its true distinction lies in its deep-rooted family heritage.

Monte Augusto is typeset in Norman with a swash on the capital A. The subhead Olio di Familia dal 1803 is also shown in golden letters and uses Turquoise. The back label is mainly designed using Auster.

The Merola family has been producing oil since at least 1803, a fact marked by the date engraved on a stone tub once used for storage. Young Vincenzo sought to honor this legacy by packaging the oil in an elegant bottle, departing from the traditional large-format cans. The uniquely shaped bottle, reminiscent of balsamic vinegar, is adorned in black and gold, exuding a sense of value at first glance. The family monogram, prominently displayed on the collar, echoes the one still found at the Merola palace in the historic center of Bonito.

The label is a testament to both tradition and craftsmanship. Made with black-textured UPM Raflatac Cotton Black paper, it features a portrait of Vincenzo’s great-great-grandfather, Nicola Merola, who first began marketing the family’s olive oil in the 19th century. This portrait is printed on UPM Raflatac Genesi paper. The label is printed using three different golds: offset for the text and nutritional information, laminates for the decorative olive leaves and carriage—an image still found in the Merola palace—and cast gold for the progressive bottle numbering and the inscription "Monte Augusto," the location of the family’s olive groves. The label wraps around the bottle, die-cut to form a drop of glass at the closure, with the cap sealed by a wax stamp bearing the Merola family monogram.

“La Aceituna de Carta” (“The Olive Menu”) is an ad campaign that aims to give the table olive a greater presence on the menus of cafes and restaurants throughout Spain. Interaceituna, the organization responsible for the ads, hopes to take the olive “from the bar to the table” and educate the public on the different varieties and health benefits of table olives.

The project was designed by Valencia based studio Democràcia. Set in all caps, the campaign makes heavy use of Central Type’s bottom-heavy sans serif Felten.

Terres Olive is using BM Ikon Bold by Biliktu Foundry with modified O and E for their logo. The typeface is inspired by the Mediterranean landscape, making it fitting for the Terres Olive brand. It is paired with Henderson Sans. The labels additionaly use Cormorant Garamond.

22 Cucina Isolana is a restaurant in Cefalù, Sicily. Calvino and Calvino Grande by Zetafonts are used for the visual identity, often featuring the italics, and with a custom 22 ligature for the logo. The supporting sans is Macklin Sans by Malou Verlomme.

In central Puglia, Italy, the Bucci family has been producing high-quality extra virgin olive oil for generations. Now, the family, led by son Alessandro, has expanded their collection of products to include the region’s unique style of ceramics, introducing them to the UK market.

Our approach was to develop a modern, family crest that honoured their Pugliese heritage and incorporated typographic elements from local prayer books. The wider identity features paint splashes that are distinctive to the ceramics of the local area, and family photography that goes back decades to help convey the brands rich history.

Druk is used in the main wordmark, supported by GT America and Basier Mono in body copy.

Located in Vienna’s 2nd district, around the corner from Karmelitermarkt, kraus café bar is a modern interpretation of fin-de siècle coffee houses. In Karl Kraus’ time the Viennese coffeehouse was the center of intellectual gatherings as well as heated debates – something Kraus himself was ambivalently attached to. The restaurant aims to present a modern interpretation of this social venue and to revive the critical spirit. kraus in the digital age also weaves its satirical media criticism into the design: nonsensical fake news headlines, punctuation pedantry paired with visual indifference in form of goofy doodles.

Apoc Revelations is the brand typeface of Dia Elis. The visual identity for the Greek olive oil producer was developed by G Design Studio, who comment on their work:

Inspired by the platonic ideals of rhythm and harmony, and the Olympic ideals of respect, fair play and physical prowess, we created a holistic identity that speaks to the past while looking to the future.

The logo is a female runner, sprinting ahead with the vigour and vitality bestowed by the product. Her dynamic silhouette recalls the red-figure vessels of ancient Greece. The steady pace of her heartbeat and breath is rendered in the sparse layout of the elegant typography, which creates a sense of rhythmical movement.

G Design Studio performed a comprehensive branding strategy, crafted the storytelling and conceived the structural packaging, a lightweight but load-bearing lid that is easy to pick up. The purple color pop when opening the packaging creates an element of surprise.

On the packaging, Apoc is paired with Relevant. The website pairs the logo in all-caps Apoc with text rendered in Forum.

MIA VIA is sourcing fine organic foods only from Italian Demeter certified producers.

Transatlantika created the brand identity in collaboration with Picpacker Motion Design including name, logo, packaging, illustrations and a modular color concept to build a brand that is bold and elegant while subtly hinting at the company’s Italian origin.

The MIA VIA name (meaning ​“my way” in Italian) and logo is inspired by old Roman milestones. The typeface Garda Nova is based on the ancient Capitalis Monumentalis.

While the typeface has luxurious classic Italian feel, the generous letter spacing gives the logotype a touch of modernity.

Three typefaces are paired to create the MIA VIA brand identity. Garda Nova is used for the logo and slogan, the general text is set in Wigrum and quotes use the font Galien.

A prestigious fashion brand has dressed, with a personalized label and box, a bottle of award-winning oil from the Marche region. The typography pairs Alleanz Sans (CAST) with Nitti Typewriter (Bold Monday). The pattern is an illustration by Michele Rocchetti.

Unto (meaning greasy or oily in Tuscan slang) is a small Italian organic olive oil brand and producer with a local, ecological focus, on a mission to revitalise ancient abandoned fields in rural Tuscany. Aimed at a young, mid- to high-end food conscious crowd, Unto aims to establish a reputation through specialised shops, delis, and restaurants in London, while selling direct-to-consumer internationally through a webshop and social media.

To launch their brand and gain traction, Unto were looking for a bold identity that would be equally eye-catching and recognisable on the shop shelf as on the Instagram feed, and which would reflect their unique, hands-on approach.

As the brand and product launched simultaneously on a small budget, we devised a set of graphic elements applicable to all platforms and surfaces – a kit of bold, impactful parts: wordmark, story graphic, and an illustration of two olives doubling as eyes. Crude typography based on metal type is used together with overprinting spot colours to create the right atmosphere.

The kit-of-parts approach helped establish brand recognition from the start, with the bottle as main identity application, as well as website and Instagram. The spaghetti western-inspired aesthetic playfully reflects the brand's rural focus, and the honest, thoughtful use of materials and print (two-colour offset and screen print) create an honest, tactile, standout product in the category, with its oversized olive-eyes peeking out from the shelves.

To generate campaign and advertising imagery, we supplied the Unto harvesting team with a bag of disposable cameras – which they continue to enthusiastically use, giving the audience a unique look into the workings of the business, through images with the perfect, low-fidelity film quality.

Dolija is a producer of extra virgin olive oil from southern Istria, Croatia. Oleg Šuran designed the visual identity. For the logo, he made early use of Punta (Hot Type), set in tracked out caps, with a superscript “08” in Nota (Typotheque). Punta is also used for the bilingual product description on the labels, here featuring its Black weight for “Dolija”, and again supported by the sans-serif Nota.

The label material is quite thick and absorbent, so that it can soak up any oil drips. This paper was a bit more expensive, so for budget reasons the labels were printed in a single color. In order to avoid a dull look, a colorful typographic stamp is added to the label by hand. Each of the seven flavors got a distinct stamp design. The fonts in use are:
• Schmalfette Fraktur (Dieter Steffmann) with Punta Black for Karbonaca,
• a mix of styles from Knockout (Hoefler & Co.) for Istarska Bjelica,
• Mostra Nuova (Mark Simonson Studio) for Leccino,
• Surveyor (Hoefler & Co.) with ornaments from Marlene Display (Typotheque) for Rafe,
• Thema Moderato (Typotheque) with Peleguer Ornaments (Tipo Pèpel) for Rošinjola,
• Turquoise (Resistenza) with alternates for Buža,
• Brioso (Adobe) for Pendolino.

The wrapping paper features text set in Surveyor, paired with Poem Script and Horizontes Script (both by Sudtipos).

Metáfora is a high-end brand of olive oil produced in Avantos, a hamlet in Trás-os-Montes, located in the northeastern corner of Portugal. Design studio Pacifica was tasked to develop a label concept and identity elements that convey the essence of the famous Transmontano olive oil to the international market.

The chosen typeface is Eksell Display. Originally drawn by Swedish designer Olle Eksell in 1962, the high-contrast roman with sharp serifs was digitized and expanded by Göran Söderström, and released by Letters from Sweden in 2015. The wordmark is concluded with a drop-shaped period printed in metallic bronze color. Eksell Display also serves for the debossed text on the label. According to Pacifica, this is “a metaphor for the cold and manual method of pressing the brand’s olive oil.” Translated to English, the text on the label reads: “Behind these mountains, we still hide the time the world forgot. We preserve the genetic heritage of the trees and proudly hold, within this bottle, an olive oil originated from past legends and millennia.”

The informational text on the labels is set in Mark Simonson’s monospaced Anonymous. Bottle number, batch, and harvest date are added by hand.

This packaging design won Silver in the European Design Awards 2020.

9 Oliveres is a premium extra virgin olive oil, named for having its origin in an orchard with nine millenary olive trees. Tradition and modernity is what best defines the company and its products. This is what the new design tries to convey through two main components: for one, the numeral 9 with which the brand has become known was redrawn to give it a more unique and distinguishable character; for the other, we highlight the sublime character of this oil by incorporating a text that explains the particularities of the brand, and laying it out in a style reminiscent of old epigraphs. Austin News is used to communicate this in a contemporary way. The typography takes center stage and is clearly the protagonist in this design, simple and without artifice.

The narrow geometric Cera Condensed is utilised for typesetting nearly every bit of information on the packaging of Premiere of Taste products, a ’fast-luxury’ house brand of Magnit, a major Russian supermarket chain.

The label and packaging graphic design by Russian Depot agency was awarded at the Sreda design festival.

Sreda calls itself ‘the only Russian advertisement and design festival that accepts only those entries that help our visual environment (‘sreda’ in Russian) change for the better.’

Cera Condensed is the primary typeface and appears with both its Latin and Cyrillic sets.

The Premiere of Taste logo appears to be based on Alexon.

For the wine labels, Cera Condensed is paired with PT Serif.
