Women of Wonder (4867) is a science fiction compilation of one poem and twelve short stories “by women about women”, edited by Pamela Sargent and first published in 1974. Penguin Science Fiction has a list of the contents. This is Penguin’s paperback edition from July 1978, featuring a cover illustration by Candy Amsden.

The title typeface is Éclair. The bold roman with the distinctive horizontal hatching was designed by Maximilien Vox (best known for devising the VOX-ATypI classification) and first cast by Deberny & Peignot in 1935. The type might have been specified by David Pelham who was still Penguin’s art director at that time.

Le Guin, Chelsea Quinn Yarbro, Joanna Russ, and Vonda N. McIntyre, and a poem by Sonya Dorman. “With a lengthy and well-argued introduction by the editor, it is perhaps the most solid (and has proved the most influential) of all the ‘feminist’ SF anthologies published in the 1970s.” — Pringle, The Ultimate Guide to Science Fiction, second edition (1995).

The cover typography for the initial volume combines Chwast Blimp A with light Futura caps. For the follow-ups, Blimp was replaced by another obese ’70s face, VGC’s Too Much Shadow, paired with all-caps ITC Souvenir (or Eastern Souvenir?).
