Cover for a compilation of big-band jazz by Bethlehem Records, designed by Tom Hannan.

The eclectic type mix includes three faces with roots in the 19th century: Jim Crow was originally cast by the Dickinson Type Foundry as Gothic Shade circa 1850. Renaissant likewise originated at Dickinson, in 1879. The condensed slab serif looks like a version of Skeleton Antique.

While not known as well as Reid Miles, jazz record designer Tom Hannan had a similarly prolific career in the 1950s, creating covers for Blue Note, Prestige, and Bethlehem Records. This is his first credited cover on Discogs.
