Anchor Books

Founded in 1953 as Doubleday’s imprint for quality paperbacks. Around 1999, after Random House merged with Bantam Doubleday Dell, Anchor Books was added to the same division as Vintage. [New York Times] In 2021, Anchor started publishing hardcover editions, too. [Penguin Random House] As of 2025, Anchor Books is part of the Knopf Doubleday Publishing Group division of Penguin Random House which is owned by the German conglomerate Bertelsmann.
