Das Luka-Evangelium was made by Orphea Joanna Heutling as her Bachelor thesis project at HFBK Hamburg. From the author and designer (translated):

Das Luka-Evangelium is an experimental translation of the Bible in which, based on research into the representation of gender diversity in heroic narratives, some of the male characters in the Gospel of Luke have been transformed into women and non-binary people. The original text is 85% male, as the Bible is a book written by men for men.

Das Luka-Evangelium was written for a diverse contemporary audience, just as the four Gospels are each their own version of the story for their respective times and audiences, and often deviate from historical facts. In the spirit of plurality in faith, this translation is intended to complement, not supersede, other translations.

To design this book, Heutling used Muoto (Matthieu Cortat, 205TF) and ABC Marist (Seb McLauchlan, Dinamo).

Since 2003, the HFBK Hamburg has been publishing a printed magazine, initially as a newsletter focusing mainly on university topics, and since 2009 under the name Lerchenfeld, which has since grown into an impressive magazine. Lerchenfeld reports on current trends in art, exhibitions, events, and projects related to the HFBK. Essays, interviews, and other texts present positions on issues in art, culture, and science.

The magazine’s design changes every year and is created by the respective graphic design class. The images shown here are from nos. 73 to 76, all published in 2025.

This poster series was created for a series of events at the Digitale Grafik class at Hamburg University of Fine Arts. The series comprised a total of five event dates, to which guest speakers were invited. The design of the posters refers to the invited person and their practice. They were produced using various printing techniques in the workshops of the HFBK Hamburg. Statik, designed for this occasion, is used on the posters in a variety of different widths, from Condensed to Expanded. In addition, an accompanying website was designed and developed.

As a little perk, the poster for “The Rodina” features a large rotated blackletter R.

For his master thesis In Arbeit (“Work in Progress”) Jens Schnitzler wondered about the meaning and criteria of “good work”, especially in the context of graphic design, and interviewed Daniela Burger, Prem Krishnamurthy and Jakob Kirch about their practice, their experiences, and the joys and hardships of working.

Made in the Klasse Digitale Grafik at HfBK Hamburg, advised by Astrid Mania, Christoph Knoth, and Konrad Renner. The fonts in use are Bastardo Grotesk and Bookman.

The hhintersection website is an art mediation project, focusing on topics of diversity and encouraging experimentation in the educational institution and beyond. It is a platform where artists and creative producers can share ideas and be visible online.

The project began within the University of Fine Arts (HfBK), Hamburg with a desire to draw the outside world into the institution and allow the work and actions within the university to make moves towards the exterior.

Navigating through the website you’ll find reading material, documentation of previous events as well as information about upcoming things, and projects we’re interested in and want to share and support. hhintersection’s focus is on promoting content representing femme and queer artists and producers aiming to make this material and information available to all.
