The German Empire was the period of the German Reich from the unification of Germany in 1871 until the November Revolution in 1918, when the form of government changed from a monarchy to a republic (see Weimar Republic). Known in German as Deutsches Reich and retrospectively also as Deutsches Kaiserreich (to distinguish from the period after 1918). See also the Advanced Search.
