The Centre for Preventive Care is a speculative design project exploring the future of healthcare. In November 2022, the Centre for Preventive Care, set in the year 2052, opened its doors for a week inside the main entrance of Stockholm’s Södersjukhuset hospital.

During this event, visitors were invited to experience a healthcare visit in the future and to contemplate the pros and cons of prediction and prevention.

The project was then turned into a website (in (Swedish and English), serving as an archive of the event as well as a plateform to continue the conversation online. This project was commissioned and financed by Vinova, the Swedish agency for innovation.

Nå Hører Dere Oss (“Now you hear us”) is a print project that looks at what residents of Bodø (Norway) have to say about the future of their community and city. Part of a wider project by artist Steffi Klenzart, shown in the summer of 2024 at Atelier Nōua, Bodø.

Typefaces used are Store Norske Jernskrift, Store Norske Nora and Store Norske Tango, all from Skriftkompani.

This project includes the design for the annual exhibiton Einblick Ausblick (“Looking inward, looing outward”) of the Muthesius Academy of Fine Arts and Design, as well as the annual catalogue 2022, which comprises over 700 pages. In addition to a collection of projects selected by professors, various members of the university provide personal insight into the university with their answers to a questionnaire.

What Counts is an interactive installation conceived by Giorgia Lupi and team at Pentagram for the exhibition Who We Are: Visualizing NYC by the Numbers at the Museum of the City of New York.

It questions the historical legacy of census taking and data representation. Rather than offering usual dull data visualizations composed of bars and circles, Pentagram designed a whole apparatus centered more on what makes an individual identity, calling into question the collective identity brought by administration. This formalizes in a series of questions not based on facts but on world views, where each answer adds up to finally create a unique data portrait, emphasizing the emotional aspect of what makes one’s own identity. All these portraits are then used for the dynamic data visualization screened on the wall, where the visitors can read the proportions of different answers.

For the graphic design of the installation, Pentagram used two different kinds of type. There’s a custom typeface based on Lupi’s handwriting, made at Pentagram in 2019 and simply named Giorgia Lupi, keeping a handwritten aspect that contrasts with the usual clinical standards of census taking; the data portraits are also designed with a hand-drawn style, positioning them closer to craft than to the generated images they actually are. On the other hand, texts are set in Proto Grotesk from Production Type. Its straightened curves, inspired from an early German utilitarian sans, make it at the same time steady and unpolished: this singularity brought into a rather standard style echoes the will of Pentagram to bring emotion to data. The team of designers called this approach “data humanism”: an urge to consider people not only as statistics but also as individuals with desires and dreams.

Your Future London is an online platform, created by the think tank Centre for London as part of the London Futures Review project. It invites Londoners to have their say in the direction London should take in the future.

The website, designed by Studio Cronica, with illustrations by Andrea Chronopoulos, targets a young audience through the use of bright colours and simple outline illustrations paired with bold typography.

MD Nichrome by Rutherford Craze is used for headlines and overall navigation, whilst Plantin is used for body text.
