From the 17th century to the advent of the digital age, color theories have been illustrated with opulent wheels, polychrome charts, and meticulous diagrams. Gathering over 65 works from around the world, with more than 1,000 images, this edition traces the many hues of a subject that inspired Newton, Goethe, Sanzō Wada, the Bauhaus, and many more.

The Book of Colour Concepts comprises two volumes in a slipcase. It was edited by Alexandra Loske and co-authored by Sarah Lowengard and contains multilingual texts (English, French, German, Spanish). Flecha is used on the cover and for titles, while Times New Roman or similar [edit: it appears to be Happy Times at the IKOB, see comments] serves for body text.

Anna Atkins. Cyanotypes, published by Taschen in their Famous First Edition series, showcases the works of the first woman to use photography as artistic medium to document botanical species. Taschen reprints her British Algae and Cyanotypes of British and Foreign Ferns in its entirety.

The book was set in Flecha for the spine and titles, and Hoefler Titling for body text. Directed by Benedikt Taschen and edited by Peter Walther, it was published in English, French, and German (images of the two former editions are shown here).

Piranesi. The Complete Etchings published by Taschen showcases the entire collection of etchings by Giovanni Battista Piranesi. Piranesi, an engraver from the 18th century, became renowned for his architectural depictions of Rome and his imaginative illustrations of prisons.

The book was set in Flecha on the cover and titles, and Hoefler Titling in body text.

Ice Cold: A Hip-Hop Jewelry History presents the bling culture of rappers and their jewelry. Using 40 years of iconic imagery and compelling stories, this visual history shines a light on the world of hip-hop, where mega stars from Run-DMC to Tupac and Jay-Z to Migos and Cardi B flash brilliant custom pieces to show status and personal style.

The book is fully set in Flecha with support from an unidentified sans serif, while the book title on the cover and spine uses the Bold weight of Migra. The sans serif used for body text (and some page navigation) is yet to be identified.

This reference book gathers some of the most influencing and most groundbreaking web design projects since the launch of the WWW (World Wide Web) in the early 1990s. The neat graphic package of the book is endorsed by the use of two members of the Relative family from Colophon Foundry. Relative Mono is used for headlines and folio, while the body copy is set in the proportional sans Relative. The typographic contrast is assured by using Monotype Walbaum for quotes.

Zak Group teamed up with Virgil Abloh to design ICONS, a new book that documents Abloh’s oeuvre at Nike and gives shape to a cultural history of sneakers.

In 2016, Nike and Virgil Abloh joined forces to create a sneaker collection celebrating ten of the Oregon-based company’s most iconic shoes. ICONS offers an unprecedented behind-the-scenes view into this industry-defining collaboration, bringing together all the greats — including Air Jordan 1, Air Max 90, Air Force 1, and Air Presto.

The first part of the book catalogues a visual culture of sneakers and Abloh’s investigative, creative process through original text messages from Abloh to Nike designers and rare materials from the brand’s archives. We worked closely with Abloh to select never-before-seen prototypes and art direct a series of photographs by Sergiy Barchuk.

A lexicon in the second part defines the key people, places, objects, ideas and materials from which the project grew. Entries like ‘Marcel Duchamp’, ‘Illinois Institute of Technology’, ‘open source’ and ‘ready-made’ provide an evolving vocabulary underpinning the project. Texts by Nike’s Nicholas Schonberger, writer Troy Patterson, curator and historian Glenn Adamson, and Virgil Abloh with Emily Segal frame the collaborative work within fashion and design history.

The electric volt green cover features the original 1971 swoosh by designer Carolyn Davidson framed by Abloh’s addition SOMETHING’S OFF. An eight-page gatefold charts the entirety of Abloh’s prolific output including the original ten icons and the 50 designs released over the following three years.

A series of books reproducing a portfolio of ukiyo-e woodblock prints by Hiroshige, one of the last great artists in the ukiyo-e tradition. Published by Taschen, this series includes versions with traditional Japanese binding, contained in a wooden box.

Perla is used for the cover type, and is paired with Filosofia.

Specialist art publisher Taschen published a reprint of East of the Sun, West of the Moon, a stunning-looking collection reviving the most ambitious publication project of Danish artist Kay Nielsen, one of the most famous children’s book illustrators of all time.

First published in 1914, East of the Sun and West of the Moon is a celebrated collection of 15 fairy tales, gathered by legendary Norwegian folklorists Peter Christen Asbjørnsen and Jørgen Engebretsen Moe on their journeys across Norway in the mid-19th century. Nielsen’s illustration edition of Asbjørnsen and Moe’s tales is considered a jewel of early 20th-century children’s literature, highly sought-after by art and book collectors worldwide.

This finely crafted reprint restores the stunning detail and artistry of Nielsen’s images to their original splendor. The book is printed in five colors with a lovingly designed slipcase. HTF Didot is used for body text. Phospho’s ornamental majuscule didone font Aquus, used here for headlines and initials, goes nicely with the fabulous world of star-crossed lovers, magical winds, mischievous giants, and trolls.
