Long Weekend examines the landscape of the mining industry as contemporary archaeological heritage. Licari explores how sand mining and artificial lakes as by-products of the process, have shaped the Limburg region. By inviting the visitor to enjoy a moment of relaxation in an indoor spa, Licari’s project is a reminder that industrial inventiveness constantly devises new ways to continue exploiting natural resources.

Syncro is used throughout the publication that brings together all projects of the Elements project. From the Jan van Eyck Shop:

Based on a collaboration between art and cultural institutions in Dutch Limburg, Belgian Limburg and Liège, all explorations within the “Elements” project are brought together in a publication–catalogue, gathering a series of art and design exhibitions and programmes that have taken place in 2021.

The publication sheds a light on such classical elements as water, earth, fire, air which were proposed by ancient cultures to explain the nature and complexity of all matter in terms of simpler substances. It further explores how zinc, plastic, skin or electricity are part of a bigger story in which earth, fire, air and water are mined, polluted, intoxicated, genetically manipulated, technologically enhanced.
