This project was conceived as part of the temporary exhibition Grandeur Nature 2025, led by the Atelier de Didactique Visuelle at HEAR in Strasbourg. The in-situ installation measures 200cm × 100cm and is made of wood and Plexiglas.

I highlighted the former Geistel printing house through four archive photos redrawn in dotted lines. The installation, intended for local residents, combines testimonials and images to revive memories of the place. The drawings on Plexiglas are superimposed on the printing house, inviting a sensitive and participatory reinterpretation of history. Each panel explores a theme (family, lithography, workers), supported by typography that evokes a memory in motion.

La HEAR is an art school located in Strasbourg, France. Two former students, Anna Guignard and Gaby Mahey a.k.a. Atelier Bagarit, designed the visual identity for the 2023 graduation exhibition, as well as the catalog. Here is their artistic statement about their work:

In this edition, presenting the work of 149 artists, musicians and/or designers, we imagine the connections and encounters that take place within a multidisciplinary art school. We use the format of the page as a scenic space where graphic elements – the dot and the line – are organized in constellations to sketch out dynamics of variable geometry. At once free and resilient, these constellations adapt to the typographic frameworks they encounter, joyfully parasitize the reading of certain texts, and unfold in an organic and abundant manner.

Contre Exemplaires is a research publication made by students of the Haute École des Arts du Rhin (HEAR) in France, on the occasion of the 3rd Biennale Exemplaires in 2019.

Words from Julie Bassinot, one of the designer and author of the project:

"Contre-Exemplaires" speaks of failure in publishing. It brings together six critical articles on a selection of books published during the last 5 years. These failures are compared with other successful editions. We use the "mistake" to highlight a set of unspoken rules related to the practice of graphic design. The notion of exemplarity concerns only the graphic appearance of selected works, but also their process of elaboration, their singularity, as well as the coherence between form and content.

The layout of the book expresses its thematic with an experimental double side reading and mirrored page numbers. Titles are set in Till, body text in Lora, footnotes and captions in Raleway.
