Omchemy by Joanne van der Boon specializes in holistic coaching for well-being and offers a wide range of teachings in meditation, numerology and the yogic lifestyle. The branding was created by RAW Made, a design studio based in South Florida.

The Omchemy logo uses a bespoke version of Copanero by Azuliq Type, and the typeface’s regular style is used for headlines in the brand’s different touchpoints. For the full logo version a slogan in Commuters Sans by Dharma Type is added. On the website, these typefaces are supported by Victor Gaultney’s Gentium and BLKBK’s Beyond Infinity. The outcome is an inviting, modern, and organic brand.

The Garden is an album by Mithun Selvaratnam a.k.a. Mithunder, who wrote, performed, and mixed all songs c. 2019–2021. Alto saxophone on “Came To My Room” by Arun Selvaratnam. The record comes in a limited edition 150g transparent green vinyl. The cover design of the album and the accompanying singles is by Kyra Thompson (Santiaga), with a cover photo by Nina Liew.

“Zen Pack” is the name of the new SS22 collection, marking the delivery of the Summer ’22 season of Goodbois.

For this collection, Goodbois created a follow-up concept of last year’s mental care line to show more awareness for our health, mentally as well as physically. This balance can only be found if both goes hand in hand. There is no yin without yang.

To maintain consistency across all lines, the designers have added back the popular Caxton as a small detail on the clothing. However, as the succinct and prominent motif typeface, Cristoforo was used, which resembles the esoteric and nostalgic aesthetics.

The symbols of the longsleeve resemble for enlightenment, (moon) energy, (sun) & harmony (flower). The artwork on the black shirt uses a photograph, which was taken by the photographer and designer Julian Schröpel back in 2017 via a visit to Joshua Tree, California.

Like the round artwork on the T-shirts, the “Universe of Good Spirits” is inspired by graphics with quotes of the division of our energy and aura. The text added underneath of this artwork was set in Pragmatica, a font which has been long in use for Goodbois over the past five years.

Jenna Wortham is a sound healer, reiki practitioner, herbalist, and community care worker oriented towards healing justice and liberation. She is also a staff writer for The New York Times Magazine, and co-host of the podcast Still Processing. She occasionally publishes thoughts on culture, technology and wellness on her newsletter.

Her website is typeset in Apoc (Blaze Type) for the text and Agentur (Good Type Foundry) for the headings.

The typography pairs two typefaces from the first half of the 1970s: the ubiquitous ITC Lubalin Graph (based on ITC Avant Garde Gothic), and the equally weird and obscure Lucky.

This single page website uses FF Karbid Display for logo and headers and FF Karbid Text (Web Basic Set) for the body of the site.

I love this typeface very much. Initially I used it exclusively for the Berlin site http://meditieren-berlin.de. The reason is, FF Karbid is based on storefront lettering in Berlin, so I found and I thought it fits well for a site covering an aspect of Berlin.

Later the publisher of the Buddhist magazine Ursache\Wirkung (Austria) suggested to run such a service (a positive list of safe meditation groups) also for other towns in Germany, Switzerland and Austria. The editorial office of the magazine collected the data for 25 towns. Then I set up the main domain, www.meditieren.tips, shifted the Berlin site to a subdomain and currently we have sub domains and offer this service respectively for nine towns. Sixteen (and in the long even more) sub single page design sites (or micro sites for each town) have still to be set up.

The last two screenshots show how they perform on mobile devices.

Be Here Now (or Remember, Be Here Now) is a 1971 book on spirituality, yoga, meditation, etc. It was written by Ram Dass (a.k.a. Dr. Richard Alpert) a spiritual teacher known for his 1960s collaborations with Timothy Leary in the study of psychedelic drugs, particularly LSD.

The book is a feat of non-mechanical text arrangement, composed almost entirely with hand-stamped rubber type, often intertwined with elaborate illustrations to create a unique style of concrete literature. It was originally published as a box set containing several separate items in a limited edition, but has sold more than 2 million copies in a paperback format that combines all the content in one binding.

As Michael Cunningham describes the original book:

From Bindu to Ojas (the core book) was created in a New Mexico ashram (Lama Foundation) founded by artists and friends of Ram Dass. The founders of the ashram, Steve and Barbara Durkee, along with two other artists collaborated on illustrating Ram Dass’ teachings from India, which would ultimately result in Be Here Now.

Ram Daas explained the production process in a 1970 lecture at the Menninger Foundation that was later published in the Journal of Transpersonal Psychology:

They start with these four-foot pieces of cardboard and this book is 108 pages and each day they meditate from five to eight in the morning – there’s a group of five of them – and then all in silence … they hand rubber-stamp each page, all the letters of the page, and then the artists do all the sketching around the thing. Then the whole thing is photo-reduced and shipped to Japan where it’s printed on rice paper and hand stitched because it’s an experiential-type document.

Most of the rubber-stamp type used for of the book is one of many existing interpretations of De Vinne. The cover of the book uses what is possibly a dry-transfer version of Caslon 540 or similar (it seems a bit too clean to be rubber type, though it’s not impossible). A few other rubber type faces make occasional appearances throughout the book, including something similar to Miller & Richard’s Sans-Serif No. 6, but the De Vinne face is by far the dominant style throughout.

An online version of the book transcribes the illustrative compositions with accompanying scans.

The new Yoga International uses Gotham and Ashbury. Rollerscript is used sparingly throughout as well. Yoga International was a print magazine for more than two decades. In the summer of 2013, it rebranded and launched as an online-only publication featuring eCourses, online yoga classes, essays and in depth articles on yoga philosophy, meditation, lifestyle and food, among other things. 

What is unique about the typesetting on this website is the use of a deep blue for most of the body text instead of a black or dark grey. In testing, readability improved significantly with text set in the deep blue vs. grey or black.
