The Tri-County Metropolitan Transportation District of Oregon, or TriMet, is a transit agency that serves most of the Oregon section of the Portland metropolitan area: Multnomah, Washington, and Clackamas County.

TriMet provides various services, including the TriMet MAX light rail, WES Commuter Rail, and bus services.

TriMet’s third-phase logo, which came out in 2002, features TheMix in a bold weight and all-capital letters. Their slogan and much of their branding use Source Sans. On the website, Source Sans is paired with Zilla Slab for headings.

Portland's unofficial slogan “Keep Portland Weird” appears in a few different styles and formats, but most commonly using Ad Lib, or lettering based on Ad Lib, and in yellow on black.

The original two-line slogan, on the side of Millennium Music, has “Weird” being based on Ad Lib (the E and D especially), and “Keep Portland” in a somewhat generic signwriter’s sans serif. The later and more popular one-line version is a little closer to Ad Lib throughout.

The slogan is an obvious opportunity for a variety of fan art and merchandising, much of which still retains Ad Lib, and often Antique Olive.

In the spirit of the original two-line slogan, Antique Olive for “Keep Portland” and Ad Lib for “Weird”, with the motif repeated in a few different colour ways.

In Farsi, the word JOON translates to life, and is often used as a term of endearment. It carries a positive connotation of closeness and affection, bestowed upon loved ones.

All Classical is Portland, Oregon’s classical radio station. Their 2016 billboard campaign was developed and designed by Studio Jelly. The purely typographic series represents the largest application of Damien so far.

Damien was started in 2013 as Lukas Schneider’s graduation project in the Type and Media program at the KABK, The Hague, and officially released in 2017 with his Revolver Type Foundry in Text and Display sizes.

Portland, Oregon’s “White Stag” sign represents a gradual erosion of lettering over its 60 years. What remains is mostly Brush Script.

The sign was originally erected in 1940 as an advertising sign for White Satin Sugar. It was repurposed in 1957 for White Stag Sportswear using a new style of lettering, and again in 1997 for Made In Oregon which introduced some Brush Script into the mix. The sign was acquired by the city in 2009 and it was soon redesigned to read “Portland Oregon”.

The White Stag sign, with its hand lettering as sprightly as the deer, stood this way for 40 years: 1957–97.

While some of the 1957 letterforms were preserved during the two recent transformations (e.g. ‘e’ and ‘g’), most of today’s sign uses Brush Script, which has only a passing resemblence to the energetic, angular forms of the White Stag original.

Personally, I wish they had hired a lettering artist to emulate the unique style of the White Stag original rather than resort to a font that has no special connection to the place, nor fit as well with the lines of the deer artwork — but not everyone is as picky: “In 2011, Ramsay Signs' work on the redesigned sign won the company First Place in the Historic Reproduction category of an annual design competition held by the International Sign Association.”

Branding for Portland, Maine restaurant Central Provisions, housed in a mid-19th century industrial building. According to the branding agency, Might & Main, "[t]he aesthetic pays tribute to classic Portland in the heyday of the industrial 1800s, with a contemporary shine that ties everything together in the here and now."
