<blockquote>
<p><cite>Who Wants to Be a Millionaire</cite> (often informally called <cite>Millionaire</cite>) is an American television game show adapted from the same-titled British program created by David Briggs, Steven Knight and Mike Whitehill and developed for the United States by Michael Davies. The show features a quiz competition with contestants attempting to win a top prize of $1,000,000 by answering a series of multiple-choice questions, usually of increasing difficulty. The program has endured as one of the longest-running and most successful international variants in the <cite>Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?</cite> franchise.</p>

<p>The original U.S. version premiered on ABC on August 16, 1999, as part of a two-week daily special event hosted by Regis Philbin. After this and a second two-week event aired in November 1999, ABC commissioned a regular series that launched on January 18, 2000, and ran until June 27, 2002. Philbin hosted the entire run of the original network series as well as two additional special event series that aired on ABC in 2004 and 2009.</p>
</blockquote>

<p>The words “Who Wants To Be A” are wrapped twice around a circle. Dollar signs adorn the middle, with the Word “Millionaire” wrapped around them. All text in the logo was designed in <strong><a target="_self" class="entity-link" href="https://fontsinuse.com/typefaces/3895/copperplate-gothic" data-entity-code-id="3895" data-entity-code-type="TypeEntity">Copperplate Gothic</a></strong>, which is a pretty popular font for logos.</p>

<p>Copperplate Gothic is also used for other graphics in the show. At least in the early years, the multiple-choice questions were shown in <strong><a target="_self" class="entity-link" href="https://fontsinuse.com/typefaces/3306/itc-conduit" data-entity-code-id="3306" data-entity-code-type="TypeEntity">ITC Conduit</a></strong>.</p>

Though originally envisaged as a remake, the revival is a continuation of the <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mission%3A_Impossible_(1966_TV_series)">1966–1973 television series of the same name</a>.<br />
<br />
The credits and first line of the series title are set in <strong><a href="https://fontsinuse.com/typefaces/206775/microchip">Microchip</a></strong>, a computer style typeface seen in <em>Andresen Typographics: One Line Showings</em> catalog from 1985. It would seem that the <strong>M</strong> in the series title has been slightly modified with an added enclosed square, possibly to evoke the <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Magnetic_ink_character_recognition">MICR-style</a> of <a href="https://fontsinuse.com/typefaces/7324/moore-computer">Moore Computer</a> or <a href="https://fontsinuse.com/typefaces/115586/magnetic-ink">Magnetic Ink</a>, as when used in <a href="https://fontsinuse.com/uses/48901/i-come-in-peace-1990-movie-poster">other</a> <a href="https://fontsinuse.com/uses/48891/ghost-in-the-machine-1993-title-sequence">places</a> it does not appear this way. A stencilled version of <strong><a href="https://fontsinuse.com/typefaces/10527/helvetica-condensed">Helvetica Medium Condensed</a></strong> is used for the second line of the series title.<br />
<br />
Other title cards are set in <strong><a href="https://fontsinuse.com/typefaces/1721/compacta">Compacta Black</a></strong>, sometimes paired with <strong><a href="https://fontsinuse.com/typefaces/10/itc-american-typewriter">ITC American Typewriter</a></strong> which is also used for the end titles.</p><br/><a href="https://fontsinuse.com/uses/48888/mission-impossible-1988-title-sequence"><img src="https://assets.fontsinuse.com/static/use-media-items/172/171113/upto-700xauto/69b58d78/Mission%20Impossible%20%281988%29%20Title%20Cards%20Credits%20S1.png"/></a><br/><br/><i><span>License: <span class="fiu-attribution__license">All Rights Reserved</span><span>. </span></span></i><br/><br/><p>Other title cards are set it <a href="https://fontsinuse.com/typefaces/1721/compacta">Compacta Black</a>, sometimes paired with <a href="https://fontsinuse.com/typefaces/10/itc-american-typewriter">ITC American Typewriter</a>.</p><br/><a href="https://fontsinuse.com/uses/48888/mission-impossible-1988-title-sequence"><img src="https://assets.fontsinuse.com/static/use-media-items/172/171112/upto-700xauto/69b58d78/Mission%20Impossible%20%281988%29%20End%20Titles%20S1.png"/></a><br/><br/><i><span>License: <span class="fiu-attribution__license">All Rights Reserved</span><span>. </span></span></i><br/><br/><p>The end titles are set in <a href="https://fontsinuse.com/typefaces/10/itc-american-typewriter">ITC American Typewriter</a>. <p>From <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/American_Idol">Wikipedia</a>:</p>

<blockquote>
<p><cite>American Idol</cite> is an American singing competition television series created by Simon Fuller, produced by Fremantle North America and 19 Entertainment, and distributed by Fremantle North America. It aired on Fox from June 11, 2002, to April 7, 2016, for 15 seasons. It was on hiatus for two years until March 11, 2018, when a revival of the series began airing on ABC.</p>

<p>It started as an addition to the <cite>Idols</cite> format that was based on <cite>Pop Ido</cite>l from British television, and became one of the most successful shows in the history of American television. The concept of the series involves discovering recording stars from unsigned singing talents, with the winner determined by American viewers using phones, Internet, and SMS text voting.</p>

<p>From <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Partridge_Family">Wikipedia</a>:</p>

<blockquote>
<p><cite>The Partridge Family</cite> is an American musical sitcom starring Shirley Jones and featuring David Cassidy. Jones plays a widowed mother, and Cassidy plays the oldest of her five children, in a family who embarks on a music career. It ran from September 25, 1970, until August 24, 1974, on the ABC network as part of a Friday-night lineup, and had subsequent runs in syndication. The family was loosely based on the real-life musical family the Cowsills, a popular band in the late 1960s and early 1970s. </p>

Launched in January 1975, it lasted only ten months on the air. This promo clip was already mentioned in <a href="http://fontsinuse.com/uses/41837/abc-am-america-logo">the post focusing on the program’s logo</a> in <strong><a target="_self" class="entity-link" href="https://fontsinuse.com/typefaces/31527/yagi-link-double" data-entity-code-id="31527" data-entity-code-type="TypeEntity">Yagi Link Double</a></strong>. Here we’ll take a closer look at the other animated type in this spot, as it pretty much sums up the various trends in 1970s display typography in the United States.</p>

<p>The promo opens up with the name of host <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bill_Beutel">Bill Beutel</a>, sliding in from both sides, in caps from the bold and informal <strong><a target="_self" class="entity-link" href="https://fontsinuse.com/typefaces/3801/blippo" data-entity-code-id="3801" data-entity-code-type="TypeEntity">Blippo</a> Black</strong>, a geometric sans in the vein of <a target="_self" class="entity-link" href="https://fontsinuse.com/typefaces/31468/burko" data-entity-code-id="31468" data-entity-code-type="TypeEntity">Burko</a>, <a target="_self" class="entity-link" href="https://fontsinuse.com/typefaces/5936/harry" data-entity-code-id="5936" data-entity-code-type="TypeEntity">Harry</a> or <a target="_self" class="entity-link" href="https://fontsinuse.com/typefaces/45318/bauhaus-geometric" data-entity-code-id="45318" data-entity-code-type="TypeEntity">Bauhaus Geometric</a>. The typeface chosen for the name of co-host <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stephanie_Edwards_(television_personality)">Stephanie Edwards</a> – the only woman featured – is <strong><a target="_self" class="entity-link" href="https://fontsinuse.com/typefaces/7581/ringlet" data-entity-code-id="7581" data-entity-code-type="TypeEntity">Ringlet</a></strong>, an 1880s design with curls, and one of the various Victorian faces that saw a revival in the 1960s and 1970s, in pink. Washington correspondent and news anchor <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peter_Jennings">Peter Jennings</a> is represented by a wall of caps in a no-nonsense condensed grot, probably <a href="http://fontsinuse.com/typefaces/10527/helvetica-condensed"><strong>Helvetica schmalhalbfett</strong></a>. “News” gets the (then) futuristic MICR-style face <strong><a target="_self" class="entity-link" href="https://fontsinuse.com/typefaces/7324/moore-computer" data-entity-code-id="7324" data-entity-code-type="TypeEntity">Moore Computer</a></strong>. The multicolored “Entertainment” uses an all-caps/unicase face made of dots, available from <a target="_self" class="entity-link" href="https://fontsinuse.com/foundry/130/photo-lettering" data-entity-code-id="130" data-entity-code-type="Foundry">Photo-Lettering</a> as <strong><a target="_self" class="entity-link" href="https://fontsinuse.com/typefaces/149693/dellacroce-marquee-b" data-entity-code-id="149693" data-entity-code-type="TypeEntity">Dellacroce Marquee B</a></strong>.</p>

<p><strong><a target="_self" class="entity-link" href="https://fontsinuse.com/typefaces/31527/yagi-link-double" data-entity-code-id="31527" data-entity-code-type="TypeEntity">Yagi Link Double</a></strong> is the typeface chosen for the logo of <cite>AM America</cite>. From <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AM_America">Wikipedia</a>:</p>

<blockquote>
<p><cite>AM America</cite> was a morning news program produced by ABC in an attempt to compete with the highly rated <cite>Today</cite> on NBC. Premiering on January 6, 1975, the show never found an audience against <cite>Today</cite> or the CBS combo of the <cite>CBS Morning News</cite> and <cite>Captain Kangaroo</cite>. Lasting just under ten months, its final installment aired on October 31.</p>
</blockquote>

<p><a href="http://fontsinuse.com/uses/41877/abc-am-america-promo">A promo clip</a> featured an animated version of the logo, with the interlinked letterforms from the neon-like typeface gradually building up from three starting points. The <strong>A</strong> is a custom barless version (like an upside-down <strong>V</strong>) that flows into the typeface&rsquo;s alternate <strong>M</strong>. &ldquo;ERICA&rdquo; likewise is made of glyphs that allow for linked pairs. Once the two parts in blue and in red are complete and the former is scaled down to match the size of the latter, the wordmark is perfected by a red star inside the <strong>A</strong>. Yagi Link Double was also used for the studio graphics, <a href="http://www.gettyimages.de/detail/nachrichtenfoto/show-coverage-shoot-date-january-6-1975-bill-beutel-nachrichtenfoto/463544204">including the date display</a>.</p>

<blockquote>
<p><cite>The Conners</cite> is an American television sitcom created for ABC as a spin-off continuation of the long-running series <cite>Roseanne</cite>. The series is produced by Werner Entertainment, with Bruce Helford serving as showrunner and stars John Goodman, Laurie Metcalf, Sara Gilbert, Lecy Goranson, Michael Fishman, Emma Kenney, Ames McNamara, Jayden Rey and Maya Lynne Robinson, with all except Robinson reprising roles from Roseanne.</p>

<p>The show follows the Conners, a working class family struggling to get by on a modest household income. After the death of the original show’s lead character Roseanne, they are forced to face the daily struggles of life in their home in the fictional mid-state exurb of Lanford, Illinois, in a way they never have before.</p>

The big names were set in big lights, using <strong><a target="_self" class="entity-link" href="https://fontsinuse.com/typefaces/3131/unda-circle" data-entity-code-id="3131" data-entity-code-type="TypeEntity">UNDA Circle</a></strong>. It’s a long shot, but I wonder if the creators of this solid 30-second spot for NBA Saturday Primetime, an ESPN/ABC broadcast series, were influenced by ABC’s historical promotional films — specifically the “Funshine Saturday” title from ABC’s <a href="http://fontsinuse.com/uses/13638/abc-1974-fall-preview">1974 Fall Preview</a> which features <a target="_self" class="entity-link" href="https://fontsinuse.com/typefaces/31961/chicago-mn" data-entity-code-id="31961" data-entity-code-type="TypeEntity">Chicago (MN)</a>, another lightbulb typeface.</p>

It was produced by Sandler-Burns-Marmer and first aired on ABC on September 12, 1970. From Fabulous Sebastian’s review for <cite><a href="http://dvdpurgatory.blogspot.com/2009/01/lancelot-link-secret-chimp-dvd.html">DVD Purgatory</a></cite>:</p>

<blockquote>
<p>Children’s television in the sixties and early seventies was bizarre. Really bizarre. I don’t know if drugs were involved, but reflecting on shows like <cite>Batman</cite>, <cite>The Magic Roundabout</cite>, <cite>Banana Splits</cite>, <cite>HR Pufnstuff</cite>, and even <cite>Sesame Street</cite>, makes me think they were. And in large quantities. Perhaps the oddest of them all was <cite>Lancelot Link, Secret Chimp</cite>, which was produced from 1970 to 1972. Mike Marmer and Stan Burns, probably inspired by the success of <cite>Get Smart</cite> (where they were writers), <cite>Planet of the Apes</cite>, and <cite>Mr Ed</cite>, had the idea to create a spy series using talking chimpanzees. The cost of creating costumes and sets in perfect scale for the apes made it the most expensive Saturday morning children’s show of its time. And it looks fantastic for the effort.</p>

<p>The show centred around Link and his love interest, the glamorous Mata Hairi, who were spies for APE (Agency to Prevent Evil). APE were in a continual war with CHUMP (Criminal Headquarters for Underworld Master Plan), headed by Baron von Butcher (voiced by Bernie Kopell who played Siegfried in <cite>Get Smart</cite>). Each show also included Lance and friends performing as The Evolution Revolution, who were the coolest band of the time (much cooler than Josie and the Pussycats or The Monkees).</p>

It features a band of anthropomorphic cartoon cats who travel around in a van and play bubblegum pop music. This record was a marketing tie-in for the cartoon and includes songs from the show.</p>

<p>Released in 1969, the album’s design seems to be riding the wave of success from Lance Wyman’s <a href="http://www.lancewyman.com/projects.php?id=81">multiline identity</a> for the Olympic Games in Mexico City the year before. The typeface on the cover is nearly identical to the corresponding <strong><a target="_self" class="entity-link" href="https://fontsinuse.com/typefaces/36706/mexico-olympic" data-entity-code-id="36706" data-entity-code-type="TypeEntity">Mexico Olympic</a></strong> typeface, with the only notable deviation being in the top left of the N. The repetitive treatment of the type also mimics techniques used for the Olympics.</p>
