Under the name “PM24” (Paris Marathon 2024), Nike Paris ran an internal campaign during the Paris 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.

The “Marathon pour Tous” at the Olympic Games marked a novelty in the history of sport: amateurs and professionals shared the same course for the first time. Among them was Nike employee Romain Pivétal, who embarked on this adventure. For six months, we followed his preparations, capturing his vision of sport and his commitment right up to D-Day.

The aim of this immersion was simple: to tell an authentic story, the story of a passionate man preparing to take on a unique challenge. It's a campaign designed for Nike's internal communications, highlighting a powerful idea: performance doesn't just belong to the elite, but to all those who commit themselves fully.

The items as well as the advertising for their collection use the Yapari font to emphasize bold movement and a sense of motion.

Keep Up Running Club is a Stockholm-based elite running team. Their apparel was designed by Adam Nyström Zirke, who chose BST Ritma. The new design was first seen at the Stockholm Marathon 2024, worn by club founder and competitive runner Kristofer Låås.

Adidas is the main sponsor of Stockholm Marathon. In conjunction with the 2022 race, Adidas wanted to pay tribute to the runners and running clubs that they work with in the form of a magazine. Together with editor and sneaker freak Carmilla Floyd, Malmsten Hellberg created a large format 32-page magazine. The publication was typeset in LL Bradford (incl. Mono) throughout and was printed in high speed heatset in Sundsvall, Sweden. It was handed out to all participants when they collected their number bib.

For Nike’s 2018 NYC Marathon Collection, Natalie Shields (designer at Doubleday & Cartwright) used the typeface Louize Display, designed by Matthieu Cortat and distributed by 205TF.

Maratho 26.2 represents the etymology and history of the word “marathon”. The typographic structure is formed from aspects of marathon race conventions; the piece emphasises the relationship between the fennel plant and the history of the running race.

The typography mainly uses Avenir Next since it contains multiple weights which gives the opportunity of a better typographic hierarchy. It was also chosen due to its simplicity and lack of notable details — the clean structure of each letter makes the text appear visually less distracting than if it were typeset with a typeface with intentional decoration. This typeface was also chosen based on the fact that marathon runners mentally pay a lot of attention to their well-being while running, they have to stay focused and avoid distractions in order to finish the race.

For quotes and interview answers, semi-slab typeface Chapparal Pro is used, aiming to attract the reader more due to its subtle detail if compared to the more neutral Avenir Next. It aims to put emphasis on the content since most of the text is sans serif.

As one of the world’s foremost athletic events, the London Marathon attracts both runners and fans from across the world. To celebrate this year’s race, we collaborated with Nike Running to design a marathon-themed apparel collection that was stocked in the city’s Niketown store.

Our long history of involvement with running and crew culture – developing, for instance, the visual identity for Run Dem Crew – allowed us to tap into the vibrant and creative culture that has developed around the scene.

The designs play on the close relationship that exists between London’s runners and the city itself, using wordplay and making reference to specific locales in order to create unique and engaging RUN LDN graphics.

Nike’s sponsorship of the Shanghai Marathon provides them a valuable opportunity to highlight their brand amongst the Chinese running community. We were asked to develop an aesthetic identity for the race that celebrated the city’s athletic heritage and could be deployed across high-profile and varied applications.

Alongside Nike's Brand Design team, we devised a visual identity that both reflected the competition's energy and maintained the flexibility to incorporate Western and Chinese scripts.

We commissioned and directed typographers Six Station and Ryu Mieno in the creation of a series of posters that would be displayed on billboards, banners and signs along the marathon route, as well as at the Marathon Expo and online.

Artist Sodavekt designed an accompanying pattern that incorporated elements of the city as well as running imagery, recasting road markings, wayfinding signs and Shanghai architecture in Nike’s iconic Volt colourway. In order to enable its use on different surfaces it can be cropped without compromising design.

This bespoke Shanghai imagery resulted in high levels of brand exposure and commercial activity during the race, and encouraged several hundred participants to sign up to Nike+ apps as a result
