Le Grand Livre de la Moto, or “The Big Book of Motorcycles”, is a 2025 anthology by publisher Marabout. From the early days of racing to the rich history of MotoGP, via off-road racing, discover the iconic riders and bikes, the anecdotes and moments of bravery that have forged the legend of this sport.

As often, Atelier AAAAA display a polyphony of typefaces. In this case: NaN Metrify, Based, ITC Barcelona, Chromium One, Core Escher and BRZO are sharing the scene. Their combination provides a range of styles and functions, helping to structure content and create a consistent visual identity throughout the book.

Inside of the book, East of Rome’s Based does most of the legwork for the titles and subheaders, while ITC Barcelona, Chromium One, Core Escher and Brzo are punctually used for chapter headings. NaN Metrify A is used for most long running text as well as in tables and infographics, in many widths.

The catalog for Best Book Design from All over the World 2026 was designed by Florian Lamm of Lamm & Kirch, using OT Scholar and photographs by Attila Hartwig.

This compilation of so-called barbershop music was released by Decca Records in 1960. It celebrates the last ten winners of the Barbershop Harmony Society’s annual international chorus competition: the Buffalo Bills, the Schmitt Brothers, Four Teens, Vikings, the Orphans, Four Hearsemen, Confederates, Lads of Enchantment, Gay Notes, and Four Pitchikers.

The large number 10 is probably drawn without using a font. “Years of Barbershop Champions” is set in the Heavy weight from Ludlow’s Radiant. The names of the winning quartets are set in Alternate Gothic, likewise in all caps. “Official Recordings” inside the trophy is in Typo Script.

Reading is hard, but writing is harder.

De Situatie is a literary platform and publication founded by PIP Den Haag, aimed at promoting the art of storytelling among young audiences by providing space for emerging writers and type designers alike.

For this second publication they selected ten texts selected from De Situatie’s annual writing competition. For each text, All Sizes selected a unique typeface in close collaboration with type designer Céline Hurka. None of these typefaces had been published before, allowing writing talent and design talent to meet on equal footing.

The texts are interspersed with half pages that are tilted in the reading direction, inspired by the dwarsligger concept—originally designed to make books readable with one hand. Within the context of De Situatie, this device also functions symbolically, reflecting the platform’s slightly off-axis position within the literary landscape. All editorial texts are placed on these half pages, reinforcing the relationship between form and content.

X Games is one of the world’s most recognizable action-sports institutions, a global league where skateboarders, BMX riders, skiers, and snowboarders push the outer limits of athletic possibility. Founded by ESPN, the competition has evolved into a year-round ecosystem of events, broadcasts, and digital storytelling, shaping how action sports are seen and celebrated.

Across summer and winter seasons, X Games operates as both showcase and proving ground: a space where athletes meet high and intense stakes, define entire eras through a single run or trick. Its identity must hold all that intensity while remaining clear, immediate, and unmistakable at any scale.

Record Laser appears throughout the identity as the primary wordmark. Its sharp, unapologetically retro-futuristic forms capture the speed and adrenaline core to X Games culture. The typeface’s angular rhythm and high-impact silhouette lend the brand a distinct visual charge, one that feels equally at home on a broadcast graphic, a leaderboard, or a city-scale billboard. For the main titles, the design team choose bold weights of Lateral Extended and paired it with Lateral Condensed and Medium for the lower level of text. Lateral is a super extensive font family by Schick Toikka.

The rebrand was developed by WKND HRS, with contributions from designers including Noé Garsoux, Manas Trivedi and others.

The World’s Best Typography, Typography 46 brings together the work of the winners of the latest TDC competition for typographic excellence from around the globe in communication design, lettering, and typeface design. For the past seventy years, the Type Directors Club has encouraged the design community to achieve excellence in typography through annual competitions. This high-quality volume showcases the award-winning selection while redefining the boundaries of visual communication.

Curated by the Type Directors Club, this year’s selection features outstanding projects from 33 countries – including Germany, Japan, Georgia, Israel, New Zealand, Peru, Thailand, Ukraine, the United States, and many more. The World’s Best Typography, Typography 46 is more than just a design annual. It’s a tribute to the power of type, the craft of design, and the global community that continues to shape and advance both.

The book is published by Slanted Publishers and edited by the Type Directors Club, with Griffin McCabe, Joe Newton, and Carol Wahler serving as editors. The design was developed by Slanted Publishers under the creative direction of Lars Harmsen, Pola Małaczewska, and Marian Misiak. Publishing direction was managed by Lars Harmsen and Julia Kahl, who also oversaw the final artwork. The book was released in October 2025, the book measures 21×28.5 cm, comprises 288 pages, and is published in English. It features a softcover with open thread-stitching and high-quality offset printing. Printing was carried out by NINO Druck in Germany, with bookbinding by Buchbinderei Spinner. The publication uses fine papers by Fedrigoni Paper and features the typefaces Heneczek, Radius, and Extract Semislab, all by Threedotstype. The ISBN is 978-3-948440-98-5, and the retail price in Germany is €69.

100 beste Plakate 23 highlights the year’s most compelling poster designs from Germany, Austria and Switzerland. From bold typography to experimental imagery, these 100 posters capture today’s vibrant pulse of visual communication.

In 2023, it’s Studio Es from Vienna who designed the visual identity of the competition.

For the type, they chose Signs (by Swiss foundry Maxitype) – a chunky, spirited typeface that communicates with clarity whether static or in motion – and combined it with Pantasia by Wei Huang and Times New Roman in order to create contrast and rhythm in the visuals.

The 2025 Czech International Student Design Award campaign uses Right Grotesk by Alex Slobzheninov (Pangram Pangram) alongside Helvetica on the website.

The National Award for Student Design was first announced by Design Cabinet CZ in 2008. It builds upon competitions organized by the state institution Design Centre of the Czech Republic from 1991 to 2007.

In the professional designer competitions organized by the Design Centre of the Czech Republic, students also participated from the beginning, primarily submitting their school projects, which were judged in a separate category. As the number of secondary schools, colleges, and universities educating design students grew, so did the number of submitted works.

Telka from Ultra Kuhl and Maison Neue Mono from Milieu Grotesque are used for the Grand One 2025, Finland’s largest and most significant digital competition. The large number one could be either lettering or taken from a yet unidentified font.

The goal is to highlight Finnish excellence in digital marketing and service development. The Grand One has been organized since 2002 and has established itself as the most prestigious competition in its field.

Grand One awards work under three main themes: Services & Design, Data & Innovation, and Marketing & Communications. There are 20 individual categories and all companies, organizations, and freelancers operating in Finland can submit their work.

The works were evaluated by a 46-member jury of top experts in the field.

Grand One culminates in a gala where the best works are awarded. The gala has been held in Kattilahalli for the past few years. In the spring of 2024, there were over 550 party guests. You can watch the gala atmosphere in the video at the bottom of the page.

The latest incarnation of the TDC website uses Gamay.

Gamay is the most recent release by Darden Studio. The dashing sans comes in a family of six widths, all in weights from Thin to Black, in upright and italic. The easiest way to use this wide palette to full capacity is with the variable version. That’s exactly what KUDOS did. The studio responsible for the redesign employed the font’s axes for weight and width and dialed in those styles that are the best match for the respective text elements: headings are shown in caps from a bold expanded style, while body copy is spec’d in a lighter weight of regular proportions. On some pages, intro texts feature Gamay’s handsome italic.

We’re honored to see Gamay in use as the new visual voice of one of the design world’s most respected institutions.

Gamay was designed by Viktoriya Grabowska, a talented type designer based in Poland who also teaches at the University of Arts in Poznań. Vika has been a member of Darden Studio since 2017. In 2020, her addition to the Birra Flight, Birra Saison, was awarded a Certificate of Typographic Excellence by the Type Directors Club.

The Weekly Type header shows an animated type weight gradient hinting at Gamay’s range of styles.

Selecting the red dot brings up the menu, with items presented in expanded caps from Gamay Medium. On hover, the font weight increases.

The section about the TDC’s traveling exhibition presents dates and locations in contrasting weights.

Key figures from the lastest competition are brought to life by Gamay’s clear-cut numerals – here used in both tabular and proportional varieties.

The photographic book BREATHE IN: Emotions of the XVIII Chopin Competition by Filip Dowjat offers a unique behind-the-scenes look at the 2021 Chopin Competition.
Filip Dowjat captured the emotions of the participants, from their intense concentration before performances to the anxious moments awaiting results. The project was developed in close collaboration with photo editor Joanna Kinowska, who curated the image selection and sequence, and designer Andrzej Dobosz, who crafted the elegant visual presentation.

BREATHE IN stands out for its elegance and subtlety, complemented by the sharp serif Migra (Pangram Pangram), emphasizing both the prestige and contemporary feel of the publication. The clearly integrated trilingual text (Polish, English, Japanese) allows readers worldwide to immerse themselves in the competition's atmosphere.

A distinctive feature is the photographic index, providing details about the location, date, participant's name, and the Chopin piece performed at each captured moment, enriching the emotional context for readers.

The title “WDECH / BREATHE IN / 胸に息を吸い込んで” symbolizes the silent moment before the first notes are played.

The book was published by the Fryderyk Chopin Institute (NIFC) and co-funded by the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage.

A springboard for young fashion designers since 1986, the International Festival of Fashion, Photography and Accessories – Hyères will hold its 40th edition from 16 to 19 October 2025 at the Villa Noailles. The jury for the three competitions – fashion, accesoires, and photography – includes Marine Serre, Jean-Charles de Castelbajac, Christian Louboutin, Alexandre Mattiussi, and Florence Tétier, among others. It was announced using Respira and Krasz. The additional informations and texts are set in Enduro.

More than just a competition, the International Festival of Fashion, Photography and Accessories – Hyères has become, over the past 40 years, a major cultural and artistic event that also offers the public fashion and photography exhibitions, as well as conferences. During the four days of the festival, the Villa Noailles, a place of creative effervescence, will bring together designers, journalists, style office managers, representatives of ministries and leaders of major brands, all of whom are essential supporters of the competition.

Concrete poet Dom Sylvester Houédard coined the term “verbicovisual” in the first article published on concrete poetry in Britain (in Typographica 7, 1963). It seemed like an appropriate title for this book.

This project, created for the ISTD ‘Sound Bites’ brief, typographically explored a collection of sound clips recorded across Britain between 1950 and 1965. The unique focus was on capturing dialectal words and phrases rarely seen in print, emphasizing their oral origins.

The research led to inspiration from 1950s England’s artistic movement of concrete poetry, where typographic arrangement visually conveys meaning usually expressed through speech. Sofia Pro was integral to the design, offering clarity and versatility to represent the interplay between spoken language and visual typography. The project earned the designer honorary membership in the ISTD.

Different weights of Sofia Pro were used in some poems for emphasis.

The orange pages indicated different speakers and sections, and from the transcriptions the designer made a series of concrete poems whose forms were determined by the voice of the speaker.

Besides functioning as dividing pages, the orange sheets added to the aesthetic quality of the book, creating unexpected typographic forms.

In collaboration with the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts – Design, Film and Art, Swiss Post launched a competition that challenged students in graphic design. Swiss Post aimed to pique young people’s interest in the Swiss Post of today and have them share their thoughts on the subject.

The jury selected Svenja Kolly’s and Mia Gujer’s designs from the entries submitted. The result is two interrelated stamp designs that symbolize Swiss Post’s connecting and networking role. The design includes a modified version of the original number 1 in Movement to enhance legibility.

A series of stamps, postcards and envelopes were printed to celebrate Swiss Post’s 175th anniversary.

Description of the project by the designers:

The stamp respresents the theme of movement, as well as focusing on the bonding role of the Post. In regard to the 175 year anniversary bright colors are used to show moderness, classic symbols represent the tradition.

Projekt Roku is an annual competition in Poland that highlights and celebrates the best design works in various categories. It covers areas such as graphic design, typography, branding, and social impact, offering recognition to both professionals and emerging designers. The initiative is focused on promoting creativity and innovation within the design community, while also reflecting on the social and cultural relevance of design projects. By showcasing diverse design solutions, the competition helps set trends and inspire further exploration in the design world. It is organized by the Association of Applied Graphic Designers (STGU), the largest organization of graphic designers in Poland.

The winner of the Grand Prix is invited to design the identity for the next edition. For the 22/23 edition, TEKIO used Komuna and Halisa.

From the C2A Creative Communication Award:

The C2A is an international awards program, and promotional platform for communication designers, agencies, graphic designers, freelancers, digital media designers, and the worldwide creative community. The most excellent campaigns, creative solutions, and ideas are selected and awarded by the renowned international C2A jury.

The website is set in PP Right Grotesk by Pangram Pangram and Founders Grotesk by Klim.

Geogrotesque is the typeface used by the World Surf League. From boardriding.com:

EK Modena is a variable superfamily designed by Erkin Karamemet that consists of a variety of styles in six widths and eight weights. The upright shapes are joined by corresponding italics as well as monospace versions. Numerous OpenType features enable a wide range of stylistic alternates. From compressed headline styles to proper widths for long copy and sturdy shapes, EK Modena’s diverse and colorful design space provides a visual bouquet of applications.

Studio Lindhorst-Emme+Hinrichs was invited to design the CI and the book for the 100 Beste Plakate / 100 Best Posters 22 competition:

The design itself is clear, simple, and uncluttered. The design’s starting point is a book bound in ten different coloured papers, with ever-changing coloured endpapers – the cover as well as the front and back endpapers are never the same colour. The variability of the colours also applies to the typographic design. EK Modena, with its many cuts and weights, was exactly the right choice.

The reduction to these two factors or means in the design was important to us: colour, initially determined by the materiality of the coloured paper, in combination with only one varied but clear typeface. With these means and an emphasis on the number “100,” which is what this is all about, we forged a concept to implement the design for the 100 best posters 2022.

Re:Beach is the City of Oceanside’s (CA) Coastal Resilience Competition, bringing together three design teams from around the world to develop innovative sand retention pilot projects. One team and their winning design will be selected to move into final engineering and permitting at the completion of the competition.

To design the identity of Re:Beach, the graphic design studio Order used Colonel Sharp by Damien Gautier (205TF). According to Order, Colonel “was chosen because of its relationship to beach signage, typically spray painted to identify safety concerns or critical information.”
