Like many Czechoslovak movie posters of the 1960s–90s, this one for Akira Kurosawa’s Kagemusha has its own simple accent for the Š. The designer, Vratislav Ševčík, must have been disappointed with the options included on the rubdown sheet.

Published by ISE Cultural Foundation on the occasion of a 1994 exhibit at the foundation’s gallery in NYC, this beautiful catalog features a foreword by Akira Kurosawa along with forty vibrant color drawings. Reminiscent of the expressionist paintings of Marc Shagall, these illustrations were used as storyboards for classic Kurosawa films such as Ran and Kagemusha.
