Catalogue for the Pavillon Belge à la 18e biennale d'Architecture de Venise, that is the Belgian Pavilion at the 18th Venice Architecture Biennale, designed by Studio Le Roy Cleeremans (Esther Le Roy and Sarah Cleeremans):

An inspiring fictional account that takes the form of an investigation conducted in the 2050s, Demeurer en mycélium / Living in Mycelium calls into question our voracious, extractivist production system by giving us an opportunity to see, feel and experience an alternative constructive world made from and with living materials, namely fungi.

The publication was edited by Vinciane Despret, Christine Aventin, Juliette Salme and Bento, and published by Cellule architecture.

The main typeface is Better Times, which anchors its skeleton in URW’s Nimbus Roman no. 9, a variant of the canonical Times. It was started by Adèle Gallé in collaboration with and for Studio Le Roy Cleeremans and triggered by this particular project. As of December 2023, it is work in progress and not available yet.

Better Times is paired with Uncut Sans by Kasper Nordkvist. The symbols seen on the book spine and also on some of the interior pages are derived from Clémence Fontaine’s Isobare.

Talking Letterheads was an interview marathon with contemporary Belgian graphic designers, hosted by Gerard Herman & Dylan Belgrado, and coordinated by Sara De Bondt, Ronny Duquenne, Valentijn Goethals, Ine Meganck, and Jeroen Wille. It was organized as part of the exhibition Off the Grid: Belgian Graphic Design from the 1960s and 70s as Seen by Sara De Bondt at Design Museum Gent.

The graphic identity of the event was designed by Ine Meganck and Valentijn Goethals in January 2020.

This book offers a collaborative panorama of Belgian graphic design history from a multiplicity of perspectives, with essays on type design, colonisation and labour relations among other subjects. Contributors include historians, practicing designers, teachers and first-hand accounts. With hundreds of previously unpublished illustrations such as posters, signage, typography, book design, logos and archival photographs.

Prospecting an In–Between (East Belgium 1920-2020) is a digital exhibition about the history of the region Eupen-Malmedy-Sankt Vith since the change of nationality in 1920. It is the result of a collaboration between the German-speaking community of Belgium, the Zentrum für Ostbelgische Geschichte, and the Luxembourg Centre for Contemporary and Digital History (C²DH) at the University of Luxembourg.

The website was designed and developed by Calibro, a studio based in Milan, focused on data driven digital experiences and research.

The website offers different points of view on the history of the Region and addresses a broad spectrum of users with different expertise through the use of interactive videos and long readings. All information is available in four languages: English, German, French and Dutch.

Calibro chose Begum Sans for the headings and Arimo for body text and other UI elements.

We Are Outsiders is about local experiences, close by, but yet far away from everyday life. Its core mission is to get people walking and exploring one of the most beautiful hiking scenes in Belgium; the High Fens. What better way to do this than with like-minded people, sharing tasty food, drinks, music and vibes around the crackling campfire?

The typeface families used throughout the whole branding are Vulf Sans and Vulf Mono, both offering a quirky character with a great deal of warmth and personality that encourages a designer to play and have fun while typesetting. Vulf Mono feels softer, friendlier and certainly less serious than typical monospaced fonts. The logo and the brandmark are created using Miniature Display, which lends them a great deal of personality.

This is the magazine cover of De stem der vrouw (“The voice of the woman”) from their November 1969 edition. The monthy magazine was aimed for socialistic, forward-looking women.

This was one of the first major books typeset in the display and text versions of DTL Fleischmann, which were both released in 1994. The design is by the Belgium book designer Antoon De Vylder, who made an extensive range of books for the Mercatorfonds Paribas using DTL typefaces (in many cases just after their release). Antoon De Vylder is also lecturer at the Plantin Society in Antwerp since the 1990s.
