Waterfront Blues Festival has kept Portland’s music community bopping since 1988. As a legacy brand, honoring the loyal fanbase who’s been there since day one while welcoming a new generation of music lovers is crucial. We pored over vintage concert posters to update the Waterfront brand in a way that bridges the past and the present to create something recognizable yet refreshed.

This One’s for You is a young adult novel by Kate Sweeney, published by Viking, an imprint of Penguin Random House. The book follows the relationship and personal development of two ex-best friends as they embark on a road trip after their high school graduation.

Theresa Evangelista designed the book jacket by creating a narrative interplay with the composition of the illustration (by Nicole Rifkin) and text. On the left side of the cover, the character’s upward line of sight follows the angle of the title, set in Cortado (with an apostrophe customized by Evangelista). The italic movement of the title flows with the right side character’s wind blown hair and leads to her downward stare. The author’s name is set in caps from Trend Rough Sans One.

Klar Coffee Company is a new generation roasting house and cafe that set out with the motto of good coffee and healthy cuisine in Caddebostan/Istanbul in August 2019. Its priority is to roast specially selected quality coffee beans from micro-production farms in many different parts of the world and present them to peoples liking with healthy plates and good coffee.

Hyatt Regency Chantilly Hotel is home to Le Condé, Punch & Cocktail Bar. Le Condé is a felted lounge with extravagant touches, where to chat, have fun and share signature punches and cocktails. The drink menu has unique and surprising recipes which vary according to the seasons.

The eccentric atmosphere of Le Condé is a homage to the historical figure of Louis, Prince de Condé (1621–1686). He organised a courtly life in the adjacent Château de Chantilly that was as vibrant as that of Versailles, inviting all the greatest artists of his time. The Prince of Condé was known as an enthusiastic patron of the arts and an ardent admirer of various charming women, one of whom described him as a much more effective and able general than paramour. Le Grand Condé, also known as the Condé Pink, or the Condé Diamond, is one of the world’s most unusual and notable diamonds. The diamond remained in the Condé family until 1892. Today, it is on display in Musée Condé, the art gallery of the Château de Chantilly.

The logo and typography evoke French Baroque quirkiness. Dulcinea is a sophisticated Baroque revival: complex, intricate yet contemporary. In combination with Revista Inline and its classic feel, adds the touch of quirkiness that connects with Le Condé atmosphere. Zahrah has French fashion elegance while offering excellent readability.

The color palette has two main colors: Condé Diamond Pink & Chantilly Forest Green. The historic heritage of the Prince of Condé family and the Château de Chantilly breathe in the materials and colors selection: from the shinning pink hot foil to the textured green extravaganza.

Blackstone Valley Prep, a public charter school in Rhode Island, hired architecture and design firm Arrowstreet to create colorful and engaging graphics to cover the walls of the school.

The design’s treatment of color is similar to Paula Scher’s work for Achievement First Endeavor Middle School in New York, but is largely unique in its type treatment. Relying on a different drop-cap style initial for each section, the design is unified by the use of the school’s two standard typefaces, the sans-serif Gibson and the serif Tiempos.

The overall concept features P.R.I.D.E. (Perseverance, Respect, Integrity, Discipline, and Enthusiasm); the school’s core set of principles. Oversized letters on colorful accent walls are paired with quotes chosen by members of the BVP community. Each letter is set in a different typeface to represent BVP’s diverse community of people and ideas. The graphics are strategically placed throughout the school to inspire and encourage staff and scholars each day.

The stencil E for Enthusiasm is custom or from an unidentified typeface.

Birra Stout is one of the many typefaces used for the typographic illustrations that accompany Amanda Kae Fronk’s article about linguist Mark E. Davies in an issue of BYU Magazine, a quarterly published by Brigham Young University. The whimsical display typeface by Darden Studio was chosen for the words “famous” and “crisis” in the large opening spread. Birra also appears in another graphic with “words about women”. Here it’s used to render the terms “pregnant” and “adult”.

What could you do with a few hundred billion words? A BYU professor is transforming linguistics research, language learning, legal studies, and other fields all over the world.

Among the other repeatedly or prominently used fonts in this smorgasbord are Klavika/Klavika Display (“Big Lang BYU”, “inalienable”, “huge”), Bourton Hand Script (“Flow”, “friendly”), Facebuster (“obesity”), Tungsten (“recession”), Quitador (“Ideal”), Burford Dots (“refugee”), Estilo Script (“creative”), and Archer (“civility”). “Using Davies’s Corpus of Historical American English to compare some of the most common adjectives that appear near the word women in two different time periods – 1810–99 and 1970–2009 – reveals major shifts in attitudes about women and their role in society.” Klavika and Bourton Hand Script are used for the title, Pompadour Numerals, Cooper Black, and an unidentified grotesque for the years [edit: Champion Gothic, see comments].

Exhibition on 60 years of rock music in the Cambrésis. Cambrai Calling is a collaborative and evolving project. It appeals to residents to collect elements of the local rock heritage.

Organized by the Cambrai multimedia library and the music festival BetiZfest.

For years we have been developing packaging for Claldy and working on the process of changing the brand image that has gone from less to more. We had the opportunity to redesign several brand products, but I must confess that this was the most daring project so far as it proposes a new design concept. We saw that the previous packaging was ok, but we believed that the product lent itself to a hipper touch, and to aesthetically align with current packaging proposals. The design process was originally intended to do all the lettering by hand but in the end we use a mix of typography and handmade things. The public acceptance has been very good so we are more than happy with the final result.

Weirding Willows, a new wind lifts storytelling. First imagined as a bedtime tale for his son by Kenneth Grahame in 1908, The Wind in the Willows has remained in the top twenty children’s stories ever since. But things have been getting weird out in the Willows, as the new comic on deviantART, Weirding Willows, will attest to. Badger, Mole, Ratty and Mr. Toad are back… but they’re joined by Alice, Frankenstein’s Monster, Mowgli, The White Rabbit, Peter Rabbit and Benjamin Bunny as they defend the world from the Wicked Witch of the West, Doctor Moreau, the Mad Hatter, Mister Hyde and the Queen of Hearts (not to mention the flying nightmare monkeys from Wizard of Oz.)
