French graphic designer and type designer, 1932–2023. Started his career at Deberny & Peignot, working under Adrian Frutiger. Joined Équipe Hollenstein in 1958 [1964 Graphis feature] and created numerous typefaces for their phototype catalog. From 1968 art director at Delpire Éditeur. Teacher at ENSAD Paris (1968–1997) and ANRT (1988–1998). From 1981 art director and head of type department at design agency Carré Noir. In addition to Hollenstein, Boton released typeface designs with TypoGabor, ITC, Mecanorma, Berthold, Monotype, and FontFont.
