Creative direction, packaging and identity for Inka, a new company reinventing the lunch hour with products that make bringing food from home sustainable and chic. The branding is inspired by the 1970's "tupperware party" approach to plastic: the belief that one can find joy in reusable containers, and that good things should last and be reused again and again.

The visual identity is heavily type-driven and centered around the use of Ayer—a condensed serif that gives the system an upscale, editorial tone. Ayer is used on all print applications while Ayer Deck (a cut more readable for smaller text) is used on small-scale digital applications. Nib, with serifs that share some of the same sharpness as Ayer, is used as a subhead, and body text uses Fabriga. The Inka logo is set in tracked out Brandon Grotesque Black. Illustrations by Clay Hickson and photography in collaboration with Ian Shiver.

Damien Text is the primary typeface used for Yearbook of Type 3. This compilation published by Slanted “presents an independent selection of new typefaces created all over the world—from larger publishers to smaller, independent typographers and foundries.” The third edition (after 2013 and 2015) brings together recently released typefaces by no less than 91 foundries. The collection of typeface portraits is enriched by articles and essays by Boris Kochan, David Jonathan Ross, Ferdinand P. Ulrich, Laurence Penney, Rainer Erich Scheichelbauer, Stefan Hattenbach, and Viktor Nübel.

Damien is used for all text. Small caps from the bold weight were chosen for the rotated running heads. The contemporary serif typeface by the Revolver Type Foundry is paired with headings in Berlingske Sans Display. Damien adorns the book’s spine and back cover, too. The front cover shows a potpourri of other recent fonts, featuring the interlocking Gustan Display Forma, Fino Stencil (with OO ligature), Pilot, Italian Plate No2 Extra Condensed (on an escalating baseline), and Saol Display for the number. The publisher’s logo is in Suisse Int’l.

This second issue of Flormat, West Pico Blvd., celebrates the businesses that lie on this quarter mile stretch between Crenshaw on its east and Rimpau on its west. These shops are humbly owned and operated — rarely noticeable when a thoroughfare like Pico is traveled to get from one point to another. This issue is a megaphone of sorts, amplifying the genuine richness of this neighborhood provided through its collection of businesses.

Branding for Canterbury Bankstown. The Canterbury-Bankstown Council is a local government area located in the south-western suburbs of Sydney, in New South Wales, Australia. The council was formed on 12 May 2016 from a merger of the City of Canterbury and the City of Bankstown, after a review of local government in New South Wales by the state government. Syfy Sans is a proprietary typeface based on Crank 8 for science fiction network Syfy.
