The Irishman is a 2019 epic gangster film directed and produced by Martin Scorsese, based on the 2004 book I Heard You Paint Houses. The film chronicles the life of Frank Sheeran, a WWII veteran and union truck driver who becomes both a top hit-man for the Bufalino crime family and a close friend of Teamster’s former president, Jimmy Hoffa. Now in his final years, he looks back on how much that life has truly costed him.

The Irishman's logo uses ITC Grouch in a stark red color, echoing the gangster films, time period and its aesthetics that preceded this movie. This logo is never actually used in the movie which in my opinion is a missed opportunity. It is paired with Netflix Sans and FF DIN in the poster.

Throughout its runtime, The Irishman uses freeze frames accompanied by a text card mainly for characters who play a small role and pass away outside of the movie. These text cards, as eerie as they are, use ITC Franklin Gothic Book and look classy doing so. It is also used for the end credits. The title sequence near the start uses Arial Black. I love Arial as much as the next guy but this is a very strange choice, especially since this is the only time the movie uses it.

Pinoy Big Brother: Celebrity Collab Edition 2.0 is the fourth celebrity season and the nineteenth overall season of the Philippine reality television series Pinoy Big Brother, the Philippine franchise of the Netherlands' reality show Big Brother.

The logo uses FF DIN since 2018 while the texts “celebrity” and “edition” uses the font Broadacre Medium 0. The text “collab” is based on the Black weight of Basenji, while “2.0” uses a slightly modified version of Broadacre Medium 0.

Pinoy Big Brother: Celebrity Collab Edition is the third celebrity season and the eighteenth overall season of the Philippine reality show Pinoy Big Brother. Co-produced by ABS-CBN Studios, the franchise holder, and GMA Network in partnership with Banijay Asia, the season aired between March 9 and July 5, 2025, on GMA Network, marking the first time the franchise was broadcast on the network. The cast featured celebrities from the talent agencies Star Magic (known as Kapamilya) and Sparkle GMA Artist Center (known as Kapuso) competing as duos, a first in the series.

FF DIN has been used for the main show since 2018. It’s also used this season for the companion show PBB Collab Updates which airs every Mondays to Fridays, 10:57–11:00 and 17:37–17:40 on GMA, Kapuso Stream and Kapamilya Online Live.

The “collab” logo seems to be based on MuseoModerno Black.

“Celebrity Edition” is in lowercase letters from a low-contrast style of Broadacre.

The Bold Font was used in the “THE BIG NIGHT” wordmark of the finale special of the show since June 2025.

The exhibition Objets en question: archéologie, ethnologie, avant-garde (“Objects – Ways of seeing: archeology, ethnology, avant-garde”) explores the crossroads between surrealism, ethnology and archaeology during the interwar period in France, focusing on the question of what to do with objects.

The fertile dialogue that developed marked a decisive turning point in the decompartmentalisation of disciplines. It was driven by avant-garde journals, particularly Cahiers d’art (1926-1965), Minotaure (1933-1939) and Documents (1929-1930).

Throughout their issues, these periodicals challenged academic frameworks. By placing photographic reproductions of ancient, modern and non-European works in dialogue with one another, they were able to escape the authority of classical art history, challenge established values and give rise to new meanings.

Studio j6 was responsible for the artistic direction of the Museum Quai Branly – Jacques Chirac in 2019. For this exhibition, Guénola Six and Julie Richard created the visual identity together and chose Camelion (OH no Type Co.) for the title and text.

Grieg Seafood isone of the world’s largest salmon farming companies with brands in the USA, Canada, and Europe.

Mission Design made a new visual identity for Grieg Seafood built around a wave-like shape inspired by a creative concept titled “Ripple Effect”, symbolizing how small changes create far-reaching impact. This became the foundation of a flexible graphic system with vibrant colors, dynamic layouts, and an updated tone of voice. New imagery highlighted taste, connection, and the joy of eating, bringing the brand’s story to life.

The headline font chosen for this is IvyPresto. On the website, it’s paired with both FF DIN and DIN 2014.

Canadian director Kazik Radwanski’s Matt and Mara is about a university professor in a troubled marriage who unexpectedly reconnects with a man from her past. The poster, designed by F Ron Miller is a spare celebration of type and illustration – a welcome diversion from overwrought and cluttered film posters. The light line drawings contrast beautifully on top of Druk Super.

The small text is set in Pablo, a 1995 typeface based on Pablo Picasso’s signature. In most cases, I’d recommend writing this by hand, but when the type is small enough, and there are few repeating letters, a well-chosen handwriting font can do the trick. Pablo’s weight and roughness pair nicely with the pen used for the illustration.

Miller always makes smart type choices, and his posters (and Criterion covers) perennially stand apart from most film promo graphics.

Ilimb, l’essence des pleurs (English: Ilimb, the Essence of Tears) is the title of a solo show by multidisciplinary artist Myriam Mihindou. Born in 1964 in Libreville to a Gabonese father and a French mother, Mihindou came to France in the late 1980s and lives and works in Paris. The exhibition is shown at the Musée du Quai Branly, which is dedicated to indigenous art and cultures of Africa, Asia, Oceania, and the Americas:

[…] Mihindou presents an original installation celebrating Punu culture through the museum’s collections of musical instruments and sound archives. By working with ceramics, assembling objects, sculptures, shapes, materials and sounds and the resulting interactions with visitors, she offers a work that allows us to see, hear and feel her relationship with her culture.

Myriam Mihindou pays tribute to the Punu mourners, of whom she herself is one, true companions of souls who guide the deceased to the afterlife and the living through their mourning. She reinterprets an ancestral practice and the narratives and myths that accompany it. Through her multi-faceted, “total, performative, organic and corporeal” work, as she likes to call it, she highlights the cathartic virtue of these women’s songs and tears on the social and individual body.

The visual communication was designed by j6, a collaboration of art directors Julie Richard and Guénola Six. The exhibition poster and the visitor’s guides depict Pierre angulaire, an artwork made in 2023 using tracing paper, graphite, and silk (courtesy of the artist and Galerie Maïa Muller, photo by Pauline Guyon). While the title is placed on top of the art, Mihindou’s name is embedded – or woven – into it, with some of the many fine lines running over the letterforms. The typeface is PVC Menu, designed by Hélène Marian and available from Production Type.

If you want to see the show, you have a couple more weeks: it’s on view until November 10, 2024.

The Half-Life series was given its official website around late 2019 in preparation for Half-Life Alyx. The website uses a minimalistic style using orange as the key color, and that orange is core to the Half-Life brand. It uses FF DIN Black for big text, paired with Bold and Light for smaller text.

It seems to be Half-Life’s main typeface going forward, as Valve has started to use it in more materials. This isn’t Valve's first dance with a DIN typeface either as they have used it as early as Half-Life 2. Personally, I think it fits the franchise perfectly with how its technical look mirrors Half-Life’s theme of strange science and technology.

The franchise's title is set in Press Gothic. The same is used for the TV show's logo.

FF DIN Regular and Medium, apart from certain instances is the only typeface used for the game's user interface. Neue Helvetica Bold is used for title cards during chapter transition sequences. What looks like Helvetica Condensed is used for the credits sequence in both Part 2 and Part 1, while the original just used Neue Helvetica. These typefaces continue to be used

The Unknown Soldier is a German documentary film about the Wehrmachtsausstellung. The editors of New York made it a Critic's Pick and wrote:

Veteran director Michael Verhoeven’s gripping documentary starts with a look at his countrymen’s response to a German exhibit detailing crimes committed by Wehrmacht soldiers during World War II, and then goes on to show how much collective collaboration and organization were required to realize the Nazis’ nihilistic vision. The director does get distracted at times, but as a bitter portrait of how ordinary people commit extraordinary crimes, this is one of the more disturbing Holocaust documentaries of recent vintage.

The display typeface is Matrix Inline. Derived from the Extra Bold weight of Matrix, this member of Zuzana Licko’s Latin is distinguished by partly open letterforms. It also has decorative diamonds inside the counters of O and Q. For “Der unbekannte” and the subtitle (“What have you done during the war, father?”), it’s paired with caps from DIN Neuzeit Grotesk, the 1970 adaptation of Neuzeit-Grotesk by the German Institute for Standardization.

The director’s credit uses a better known DIN: it’s FF DIN, Albert-Jan Pool’s improvement over DIN 1451. They are shown a bit too small here to be appreciated, but the remaining credits are set in another typeface design by Licko: it’s Senator.

Michael Verhoeven died this week at the age of 85. RIP.

The final letter in “SOLDAT” is custom made. For comparison, the glyphs for T, dagger (†), and double dagger (‡) as included in Matrix II Inline Extra Bold.

The Crew Motorfest is a 2023 racing video game developed by Ubisoft Ivory Tower and published by Ubisoft for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Windows, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S. It is the sequel to 2018's The Crew 2 and the third game in The Crew series, and was released on September 14, 2023.

“The Crew” logotype appears to be set in Ezra Black Italic, with modifications to R and E and adjusted spacing.

“Motor” is set in FF DIN’s Condensed Black Italic style with a modified R. The game website uses additional styles from the FF DIN family.

“Fest” is set in a custom-made font called Motorfest, or Motorfest DeskScript. It’s only available inside Motorfest’s Fan Kit that can be accessed through Ubisoft's Rewards Page.

After nearly two years since its partnership with CNN, Romanian news network Antena 3 changed its name to Antena 3 CNN on September 27, 2022. Since then, they have focused on the Avenir Next typeface, which they started using instead of FF DIN a year prior, on May 10, 2021. The latter typeface is still regularly used on the clock below the screen bug, in various promos as well as for their regional stations.

The signs on the campus of the Schule für Gestaltung Aargau (SfGA, Aargau School of Design), Switzerland, uses a wide range of different typefaces.

The signage concept was developed by Andrea Gmünder of Feinform Grafik, Zurich. It was installed in 2012, when the school’s building on Weihermattstrasse 94 was converted and extended by the architects of Baumann Projektmanagement, Basel.

Back in 2013, Marseille was designated as the European Capital of Culture, a label coveted by all European Union cities. A place of intense economic and cultural exchanges between the two shores of the Mediterranean, Marseille occupies a special place in France. The event reduced the distances in the territory, bringing Arles, Salon-de-Provence, Martigues, Aix-en-Provence, Aubagne, and Istres closer together. The partners were committed to creating a large scale, internationally renowned cultural event that promotes the cultural identities of the region through a dialogue between Europe and the Mediterranean. This project aimed to bring together all relevant stakeholders, producing lasting impacts on the cultural, economic, urban, and social aspects of the territory, with the goal of enhancing its international appeal and visibility.

Lyon-based graphic designer Thomas Serrière was in charge of creating the identity for the event. He worked on various mediums, from posters to badges, from signage to flyers, to cover the whole event.

The identity is based on a typographical system. I designed a complete visual language in order to provide the maximum versatility and expression across every channel, format or material. The typeface was developed with André Baldinger, adapting his BVH BDot in which we introduced little “diamonds”. The MP2013 logo itself consists of a very tiny hyphen, linking all the places, events, dates of the capital year.

The logo combines BVH BLine and FF DIN Round. Some applications additionally use FF DIN.

Artist and creative coder Harry Isaac uses Scope for his wordmark on his website. Headings and menu items are set in Paratype’s DIN Condensed, while the body copy is set in FF DIN Light.

“Dear Bronx, we know that clowns can be annoying” – Block Condensed and FF DIN for the “King Stairs” campaign by Burger King, in collaboration with delivery service Uber Eats.

There’s a staircase in the Bronx, NY that has quickly gained notoriety after its display in a recent movie about a clown turned criminal in Gotham City, and the stairs have quickly become a top New York City tourist destination.

Because of this, residents in the Bronx have become increasingly frustrated with the uptick of disruptive tourists. Burger King knows how annoying clowns can be, and they want to put a happy face on all Bronx residents.

To make Bronx residents forget about the annoying tourists, at least for a little while, Burger King is partnering with Uber Eats to give them a free Whopper sandwich.

GOG – Gäste Ospiti Guests – is an exhibition of the projects developed by the students of the Faculty of Design and Art of the unibz – Bolzano, South Tyrol, Italy. At the end of each semester, the work produced by the students in the fields of visual communication, product design and art is displayed in the spaces of the Italian university.

The visual communication developed for the winter semester 2022/23 edition of GOG uses the Baustraße font designed by Fantasia Type. It’s supported by Folio. The unibz logo uses FF DIN.

CED Groep’s website

Dutch marketing agency L5 developed a new brand strategy and website for education consultancy and resource group CED Groep. Aglet Slab is exclusively used across the website, establishing a friendly and competent voice—typographically adjacent to their logo set in FF DIN.
