“Immediately after peace returned to Europe in May 1945, Excoffon joined the Fonderie Olive. This typefoundry was managed in Marseille by his brother-in-law, who made Excoffon the firm's art director. Consequently he became responsible for promoting sales of the foundry’s types. He did this so successfully that he discovered that he had a talent for publicity work. At the same period he quickly learned enough about the technical side of typefounding to start designing new types for the Fonderie Olive.” —John Dreyfus, “The Speed and Grace of Roger Excoffon”
