Tecovas is an American cowboy boot and western apparel company based in Austin, TX. They've released so many fun ad campaigns this year through their agency of record, Preacher, including their "don't go gently" campaign. This holiday campaign uses Beverly Drive Right (designed by Amy Hood of Hoodzpah), Commuters Sans (by Dharma Type), and MVB Magnesium (by Mark van Bronkhorst) for a delightful and nostalgic feel.

Maystorm Studio was commissioned to develop a unique branding strategy for the 2023 Dam Safety Conference in Palm Springs. The project includes a full suite of digital media, event signage and print collateral, all unified under a color palette of cool blues and warm gradient tones that match the event's location and the organization’s existing brand. We used Noka as the bold main font, softened by a cursive accent font, Palm Canyon Drive, for a touch of vintage charm. The palette is completed by Ridley Grotesk. The cohesive and distinctive visual identity accurately represents the conference theme and objectives.

A series of postcards designed by Dayan D’Aniello (Smith & Diction agency) for an art installation by Matty Geez at Group X in Philadelphia.

Founded by Danny Lyu, a former SoCal surfer, Summer Salt embodies surf culture and the food that rolls with it. Danny collaborated with Hungry to bring the burritos stuffed with fries that he inhaled during his teenage years to NYC. Sunburst breeze blocks, custom chain-stitched banner and wavy typography embodies the founder's ethos of a laid-back surfer, all grown up.

The logo is set in Brice Black by Cahya Sofyan. The typefaces for the menu include Beale by Hoodzpah for the headlines, and Azo Sans by Rui Abreu for the smaller information. The flag artwork is set in Beale. The tray liner includes artwork set in Beale and Azo Sans. Hat and neon sign typography use a modified version of Azo Sans.

This retro-style enamel keychain was designed by Kansas City-based So So Studio, run by artist Marie Jones who pays homage to all things vintage. Typeset in Lone Pine by Hoodzpah.

Poster design by Charlie Wagers for the Dirty Heads and Sublime’s co-headlining concert in Lubbock, Texas. Charlie is a designer, screenprinter, and co-owner of Synthesis, a botanical shop in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The posters were printed by Crosshair in Chicago on French Paper Co’s Orange Fizz paper. A limited number of special holographic foil variants were also made. This poster is typeset in Beale by Hoodzpah.

This is a T-shirt design concept by Jose Manzo for The Petal Connection, a non-profit in Roseville, CA that donates flowers to hospice patients in the Placer County area. Jose Manzo is a freelance designer based out of Sacramento, California. The tee uses fonts Lone Pine (by Hoodzpah), and BN Scouts Hand (by Brandon Nickerson) and features a retro, almost Woodstock Festival meets Precious Moments (am I right or am I wrong?) 1970s bird illustration.

For us at Hoodzpah, typefaces often start as a lettering project well received. We wanted to try our hand at a reverse contrast font, something that we were seeing a lot last year. We lettered this piece, turned it into letterpress prints, and these forms were the basis for Lone Pine, a reverse contrast, modern-western font with ornamental swash options in 2 weights.

Fun away is the title of Hoff’s collection for fall/winter 2021. Javier Cortés made a film that introduces the fashion items, Naranjo-Etxeberria provided the graphic design. The titles are shown in caps from Amy Hood’s Lone Pine (Hoodzpah, 2020), a wide slab with horizontal contrast and some sweeping swash alternates. The hairlines were beefed up to prevent them from breaking away. Lone Pine is paired with Hoff’s standard Akzidenz-Grotesk.

The Royal Bison is an artists festival in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, that has been popping up at the Old Strathcona Performing Arts Centre twice a year since 2007. It features all local artists, designers, and makers. In 2020 it went completely online for the first year. Designer Tracy Niven created the 2020 graphics and also participated as a vendor (Lonely Coyote Co).

The fonts in use are Beale (Hoodzpah), Palm Canyon Drive (designed by Hoodzpah with Retro Supply Co), and MVB Magnesium (by Mark van Bronkhorst).

South Korean pop singer Sunmi’s latest single “You can’t sit with us” from the mini album 1/6 features Roslindale in its music video and promotional materials. Many thanks to Thy Hà for telling me about this use!

The heavy lifting is done by the Display Condensed, but I was excited to see the Deck used for some supporting text. Typically I don’t endorse faux-small caps, but I think the designers pulled it off!

In March 2020 a deadly tornado hit Nashville, Tennessee, tearing through businesses and homes. As soon as the storms had past, community members like Nicoletto’s pasta (based in East Nashville where the tornadoes hit especially hard) were in the kitchens, making and delivering food to families without power and emergency crews, first responders, and medical staff working non-stop. This poster was for a benefit show to raise money for service industry professionals who lost their jobs and livelihoods due to the storm. Designed by Hoodzpah for Nicolettos Pasta, Robert's Western World, and Honky Tonk Tuesdays.

Headlines use Lone Pine (Hoodzpah); all other copy uses Presley Slab (Sudtipos).

Passion Projects keep you sane. They help you flex new styles and learn new skills. Here's a piece of fan art I made to get amped for the NBA Eastern Conference Finals featuring the Milwaukee Bucks and the Atlanta Hawks, and to try a new collage style. Featuring Sometimes Times serif by BoulevardLAB and Santa Ana sans by Hoodzpah with a custom long drop shadow. The aging effect was made using Atomica Photoshop action by True Grit Texture Supply.

Retro Revival’s business card with the new logo designed by BEQ Design out of Long Beach, California. The identity system features a modular retro pattern and a wordmark typeset in the Beale font by Hoodzpah paired with Gotham. Retro Revival is a vintage shop in Long Beach specializing in mid-century modern items and run by a teacher with a passion for retro and vintage.

Event promos for Connecting Things, a monthly, free event for creatives, based in Orange County. This event featured a talk by Andrew Hochradel, plus free drinks, food, and good people. Header font is Lone Pine Regular by Hoodzpah and the supporting type is set in various weights and widths of Benton Sans by Font Bureau.

If you like font based humor this mug is for you. Presenting the "Helvetica in the Streets, Cooper Black in the Sheets" mug by Hoodzpah. These diner mugs are made of super sturdy ceramic (like, could double as a door stopper sturdy) and screenprinted with red ink in the US.

Do-Hee Kim, the San Francisco designer and co-founder of Shoppe Theory, designed these Stay Home stickers as a digital encouragement to folks at the beginning of lockdown in 2020, and ended up making them into a real sticker sheet by popular demand. Stickers include funny phrases that perfectly sum up 2020 like, “WTF” and “Nope” typeset in Beale, the funky serif designed by Amy Hood of Hoodzpah.

Charley Crockett is an Americana, Country, and Blues singer/songwriter with a throwback sound. This album, Charley Crockett: Field Recordings Vol. 1, is a collection of 30 lo-fidelity tracks recorded in Mendocino County. The album artwork was designed by Alice Maule, using Lone Pine with some of its swash alternates, paired wih Antique Olive Nord.
