In each volume, three disciplines belonging to occultism are presented. This first volume is about Astrology, Tarot and Kabbalah. This personal project was made to obtain a diploma in Editorial Design at the Universidad de Belgrano.

A single copy was produced for the presentation of the project. It is printed in three inks: black for texts with Pantone metallic copper and warm gray for images and graphics. The cover features a circular die-cut that reveals a detail of the title page. It also shows hand-engraved dots made of copper foil. This decorative pattern extends to the spine.

I’ve used Alegreya for the main text, with Alegreya Sans for marginal notes and Warnock for titles. In “Lo Oculto”, several glyphs have been repurposed to achieve a more mysterious look: L and t use the swash terminal alternates, O is Ŏ (O with breve) with an extra dot in the counter, and the Greek final sigma (ς) stands in for c. The Hebrew letters on the title are from David Libre.

License: All Rights Reserved.

License: All Rights Reserved.

License: All Rights Reserved.

License: All Rights Reserved.

License: All Rights Reserved.

This post was originally published at Fonts In Use

Over the next forty years, Spitzer designed and published more than 100 books — classics of European and modern Hebrew literature as well as medieval Jewish texts — that were rare in their beauty, both in content and form. In 1942, in order to improve the quality of the printing and to better control the layout and typography of his books, Spitzer set up his own typesetting studio which was also used by other publishers. In 1954, together with Heinz van Cleef, Spitzer established the Jerusalem Type Foundry, the first Israeli type foundry, and helped to create modern Hebrew typefaces like Hatzvi and David. — Sources: Haaretz, Goethe-Institut, DLA Marbach.
