Tatjana Petzer’s translation, <a href="http://www.matthes-seitz-berlin.de/buch/briefe-aus-norwegen.html?lid=2"><em>Briefe aus Norwegen</em></a> (“Letters from Norway”, <a href="http://www.matthes-seitz-berlin.de/reihe/friedenauer-presse.html">Friedenauer Presse</a>, 2019), bears the same title in German, but includes additional texts spanning from 1913 through 1951.</p>

<p><em>Briefe aus Norwegen</em> is designed by <a target="_self" class="entity-link" href="https://fontsinuse.com/designers/1401/pauline-altmann" data-entity-code-id="1401" data-entity-code-type="Designer">Pauline Altmann</a> employing Sindre Bremnes’ seminal sibling romans, <strong><a target="_self" class="entity-link" href="https://fontsinuse.com/typefaces/10205/satyr" data-entity-code-id="10205" data-entity-code-type="TypeEntity">Satyr</a></strong> (body text) and <strong><a target="_self" class="entity-link" href="https://fontsinuse.com/typefaces/10204/faunus" data-entity-code-id="10204" data-entity-code-type="TypeEntity">Faunus</a> </strong>(headlines).</p>

<p>Perhaps the most important reference for Bremnes’ type family is <a href="http://snl.no/Nordisk_antikva">Nordisk Antikva</a>, a German-Swedish collaboration between the type designer Friedrich Bauer and the printer Waldemar Zachrisson from 1906. Outside Sweden, this typeface was available as <a target="_self" class="entity-link" href="https://fontsinuse.com/typefaces/31753/genzsch-antiqua" data-entity-code-id="31753" data-entity-code-type="TypeEntity">Genzsch-Antiqua</a>. This typographic choice anchors the book visually in a time and a location that matches the subject matter.</p>

The excellent blog and subsequent two books dig deep into the use, history and character of our typographic little friends.</p>

<p><a href="http://www.shadycharacters.co.uk/2016/02/a-spring-clean/">Styled</a> in a classicist shroud, the type-only layout uses Sindre Bremnes’ <a href="https://fontsinuse.com/typefaces/10205/satyr"><strong>Satyr</strong></a> and <a href="https://fontsinuse.com/typefaces/10204/faunus"><strong>Faunus</strong></a>, beautiful antiques made up of curves only. Contrast is achieved through varied settings and the trusty typographer’s red. Houston even went so far as to commission some obscure punctuation glyphs missing from the retail fonts including l b bar (℔), interrobang (‽), and the <a href="http://www.underware.nl/logotypes/irony_mark/">ironieteken</a> as proposed by Bas Jacobs (of Underware).
