Dweller, started in February 2019 and founded by Frankie Decaiza Hutchinson, is a festival celebrating Black electronic artists. The logotype set in Rapid was designed by Hassan Rahim, using the Black Extended with an upside-down M for the W.

The Dweller website was launched in January 2022. It uses Neue Haas Grotesk Text and Menlo for text.

The GitHub homepage uses Mona Sans. From Tobias Ahlin’s post on the GitHub blog:

Mona Sans is a strong and versatile typeface inspired by industrial-era grotesques. We designed it in collaboration with Degarism to work as our primary font across mediums, and with its variable width and weight, Mona Sans works well and stays expressive across product, web, and print. You can see it in use on our more marketing-oriented pages on GitHub (like /home and /features/copilot), at GitHub Universe. We use it for everything from body text to headers and pull-quotes.

Mona Sans is one of two variable open source fonts from GitHub. The other one is its robotic sidekick, Hubot Sans. Both were recently made available under the Open Font License (OFL).

The font used for code is specified in the CSS as “ui-monospace, SFMono-Regular, SF Mono, Menlo, Consolas, Liberation Mono, monospace”. That is, the website will be rendered in the monospaced UI font that’s available on the user’s operating system. The font shown in the images below is Menlo.

In early 2021, San Francisco-based cloud computing company Netlify changed its brand communication typeface to Naipe Foundry’s Pacaembu, a move by the hand of designer Justin Chuan.

You can see Pacaembu handling most of the text in their website and across their social media, webinars, blogs and other communication channels. On the website, Google font Mulish is used for secondary copy and Menlo makes an appearence whenever snippets of code need to be shown.

For this identity, Pacaembu is always used with its alternate single-storey lower-case a.

This fictional identity was designed as a student project at the Academy of Art University. The objective was to create a boutique brand based in San Francisco. With this opportunity, I created a brutalist interior furniture boutique and explored its branding system based on the philosophies of brutalism, emphasising on honest construction. While encapsulating the characters of repeated modules and blocky construction, there is an importance in creating a brand that is raw; a brand that feels true. Photographic textural elements were utilised to create an abstraction of the concept; so was the human face. The photograph of the face adds a sensibility in unifying the architecture of those living within the space.

The sharp edges of Matrix embodies brutalism’s stark nature, while its thinness mimics the silhouette of and/or edges of the furnitures, considering brutalist designs are purposefully harsh. This harshness is paired with the industrial feel of Menlo, which when in use creates a sort of texture to the page. The typography creates on its own a sculpture on the system.

FontGoggles is a font viewer for various font formats, made by Just van Rossum. It is a free and open-source desktop application for macOS.

The FontGoggles icon uses Bungee, by DJR, while the documentation website makes use of Recursive, by Arrow Type. Screenshots of the app utilize several other fonts, including Fraunces, Inter, Roboto Extremo, IBM Plex Sans, Noto Sans Arabic, Noto Sans CJK, Pilot, Hind, Mutator Sans, and Twemoji.

As a macOS app, the interface of FontGoggles uses system defaults: San Francisco Text for UI and Menlo in the error output panel.

Voubelle
A brand for young women, connected through social media, following the latest trends, in love with fashion brands, extremely original – this was the public that an entrepreneur had in mind. Her plan was to sell clothes that are in line with the latest trends, in unique designs, selected and approved by herself. She approached Anora Campo to help her with the design of the company’s brand.

Brand strategy
After knowing the plans for the company and a market study, we realized that there was a market gap for a brand that unites two aspects: the uniqueness of a large and luxurious brand with the informality and language from brands aimed at young public.

We defined four basic pillars for the brand: exclusivity, informality, status and youthfulness. These pillars have guided the whole creative process and all decision-making.

Brand identity, verbal identity and digital identity
We brought the identity exclusivity expressed in the logo and photography direction, while the youthfulness and informality are expressed by the use of typography, iconography, illustrations, verbal identity in addition to some details the direction of the model in the photos.

Two-Thousand Twelve in Review is a compendium of writing on old films seen for the first time in 2012. The mini-site is lain out according to a strict baseline grid with only three levels of typographic hierarchy. Lydian is meant to evoke an aspect of antiquity, as many of the films featured herein date back multiple decades.
