Maison Solide developed a lively and colourful graphic language for La Locale, a social and solidarity grocery store situated in the 17th district of Paris. The identity is embodied by veggie-shaped characters drawn by the studio, cheerful colours, and the bold use of Malamocco and GT Alpina Typewriter.

About the exhibition:

A selection of works from the collections of the Estonian Artists Association and the Estonian Museum of Applied Arts and Design, as well as from contemporary artists, is accompanied by Kati Saarits’ diary-like snapshots of publications from the second half of the last century on ceramic art and binders compiled by Leo Rohlin, both from the ETDM archive.

The exhibition will also include a revised version of Raili Keiv’s table installation from the exhibition ‘ROOM’ at the Estonian Museum of Applied Arts and Design, which highlighted the ceramicists who made their mark in Estonian ceramic companies in the 1960s and 1980s, as well as some more recent outstanding finds.

The exhibition is part of the 100th anniversary of the ceramics department of EKA.

Wine label, cap and boxes for Lighthand, a winegrower from Euroa, Victoria. The name is set in lowercase letters from Romie Italic, with a sweeping swash on the final d. Complimentary text is set in all-caps GT Alpina (with Typewriter).

Open-disciplinary design opens up new perspectives by breaking down the boundaries between disciplines and positioning designers in a fluid in-between space. This dialogical process fosters new approaches that not only enrich creative practices, but also provide deeper answers to complex societal issues.

Challenging traditional definitions, this Master’s thesis made by Julia Klass and Corinna Gratzl at HTWG Konstanz explores the dynamics of a design practice where disciplines merge. Designers and experts at the intersections of architecture, scenography, product design, craftsmanship, graphic design, art, and science were visited and interviewed in their work environments. Photographs from this process capture details, moods and traces, enhanced by scans of materials and surfaces.

The resulting dialog illustrates how exchanging perspectives reshapes the role of design today. It also examines whether open-disciplinary work today is driven by a new mindset compared to earlier developments.

The design is guided by the central theme of “opening doors”. Metaphorically, it shifts from “in front of” to “behind” the door, combining two perspectives: the external view highlights structural factors, while the internal view delves into personal insights and introspective reflections.

A publication compiles insights from 13 interviews through quotes and visual material—not to portray individual positions, but to highlight overarching ways of thinking and enable connections.

In celebration of the 50th anniversary of Nuremberg’s “Kulturläden”, local design studio Complex Pleasures created a colorful book that brings together stories, images and documents from the rich history of socioculture in the city. The book combines individual anecdotes and interviews in an associative way. In our design, quotes, pictures and comic elements complement each other and ultimately lead to the question of the future of cultural work and participation. The graphic design is playful and collage-like and features illustrations by Alex Mages, free arrangements and classic typesetting, using Grilli Type’s GT Pressura and GT Alpina typefaces.

We Oslo has redesigned the website and identity for Vinslottet. Vinslottet is the former Norwegian Wine Monopoly's factory transformed into a district and shopping centre.

The identity uses Alpina Typewriter from GrilliType, and Store Norske Tango from Skriftkompani.

As one of the titles of the 17th Istanbul Biennial, Mantı Postasi (English: Dumpling Post) is named after the Kayseri Dumpling Festival and is a form of reaction. This newspaper was published after the Hrant Dink Foundation’s “Kayseri and Its Surroundings: Social, Cultural and Economic History Conference”, which was planned to be held in Kayseri in 2019 and was banned first by the Kayseri Governor’s Office and then by the Şişli District Governor’s Office.

This newspaper is published within the scope of the 17th Istanbul Biennial, organized by the Istanbul Foundation for Culture and Arts (İKSV) with the support of the Chrest Foundation, Heinrich Böll Foundation Turkey Representation, and SAHA–Supporting Contemporary Art from Turkey. Pieces of Berlin is a blog and a book series covering Berlin and its inhabitants:

Pieces of Berlin tells stories about the world’s most marvelous city and its inhabitants. it attempts to lay out and capture a profile of berlin’s everyday life in its entirety by way of approaching random people on the street. Online since 2009, Pieces of Berlin documents both the current bustle and the constant change of our metropolis. All Berlin pictures are analogue 6×6 photos and are available as limited prints.

The portraits are shot by Florian Reischauer and the publications are designed by Stefan Bauernberge. Shown here is the third volume, covering the years 2019–2023.

Elif Oskan’s Cüisine is a thoroughly researched and carefully developed title that will eventually enrich Turkish cuisine and bring lots of fun into yours. We went on a research trip with the Turkish-born chef Elif Oskan (Rosi, Gül, Miss Marshall) to her home country in the city of Istanbul, the vast regions of Gaziantep, Hatay, and Antalya. The unique and charismatic wording, snapshots of memorable moments, graphics, videos and the tassel that serves as a bookmark accompany exquisite recipes. For dessert, there is baklava with tea, but also a studio-designed website with tutorials, merch and a range of products.

Turkish cuisine thrives on contrasts: east-west, sweet-salty! RT Rondelle and GT Alpina reflect this, alternating between italic and regular. Illustrative and ornamental elements have been woven into the typefaces by the designers of YAN-CO Studio. Rondelle by Razzia Type (Mirco Schiavone) is used as a title. Alongside, you'll be able to spot Alpina by Reto Moser of Grilli Type.

Loro is an Asian smokehouse concept by Hai Hospitality. They needed a brand facelift to better align with a newly minted brand positioning and personality. Our goal was to create a unique, quirky, and visually appetizing brand and website that would really stand on its own in the sea of Austin restaurant dining aesthetics.

While exploring different brand expressions for a persona known as “The Effortless Entertainer”, we discovered the Ohno Blazeface and Ohno Fatface families from OH no Type Co. and immediately fell in love. Blazeface, in particular, is packed with charisma while feeling friendly and approachable. A perfect typographic representative for the voice of this witty and sometimes irreverent brand. We paired the Ohno display and headline fonts with GT Alpina Typewriter for the body, an equally playful mono font that really completed the casual vibe we were going for. Roc Grotesk is used for UI elements. The hand-drawn shaded caps are from Abby Condensed, which was specifically drawn for this use.

In 2022, I began my own digital design practice focused on craft, conscience, and play. I had previously worked for Airbnb, Apple, Google, and Meta and was ready to build on experiences innovating products at scale. This announcement site showcases my sixteen years of work and writings. It also features projects like Futureproof, a graduate speculative design class, and Unspeakable Vice, a tour of queer North Beach one hundred years before the Castro.

The studio brand uses a combination of GT Alpina, for its quirky but academic tones, and ABC Social, for its clarity and authority. Both faces have a wide range of weights, making their use flexible. ABC Social's variable properties afford animations like the Robert Heinlein quote on the landing page.

Ali Cherri is the National Gallery’s Artist in Residence for 2021. Born in 1976, Cherri is a video and visual artist based in Beirut and Paris. His work is inspired by artefacts and the natural world. Shown here is the catalogue accompanying Ali Cherri’s exhibition at the National Gallery, titled If you prick us, do we not bleed? The first full survey of the artist’s work, and the first in the English language, this publication gives an overview of Cherri's archaeological approach to the heritage of objects by investigating their relationships to history, society and nature. This publication complements the display opening in March 2022 at the National Gallery, moving subsequently to the Herbert Art Gallery & Museum, Coventry.

The book design brings together Apoc for the cover and large titles with Aktiv Grotesk Thin and GT Alpina Typewriter Thin for all other text.

Caderno Micar is an annual publication by SOS Racismo that brings together text articles and visual essays around the International Anti-Racist Cinema Exhibition, which has been held since 2014 in Porto, Portugal.

The 2021 edition seeks to reflect on the role of art in anti-racist activism, and give space to people kept on the margins, whether they are ethnic, gender, etc. minorities.

The text composition follows this premise, using mostly fonts by Tré Seals, such as VTC Carrie, VTC Marsha and VTC Martin. These type designs reflect the history and struggles of minorities, starring personalities such as suffragist Carrie Chapman Catt, the transgender black woman Marsha P. Johnson, or the civil rights activist Martin Luther King Jr.

GT Alpina Typewriter (Grilli Type) and Karrik (Velvetyne) are used in addition to the three typefaces from Vocal Type Foundry.
