Typefoundry Amsterdam’s version of Blair
(Inland, 1900), issued in 1909. In 1913, Amsterdam added the
lowercase which had been made by Inland in 1910 as Litho Gothic [Amsterdam 1968]. An undated specimen by
Amsterdam shows Kapitaaltjes (small caps) in two
weights, Kaart-Antieke and Kaart-Antieke
halfvet. The sample is pieced together from Litho
Gothic (lowercase) and Kaart-Antieke (caps),
for the lack of a better option.
Famously used by Piet
Zwart for his never officially published essay about modern
typography called “Van
oude tot nieuwe typografie”. Trio
Grotesk is a digital interpretation based on this
use.
Photo-Lettering had an all-caps version for
phototypesetting named Amsterdam Card Grotesque.
