Linotype Bengali was originally designed 1978–1982
by Fiona Ross and Tim
Holloway for newspaper composition, in two weights. It was the
first Bengali typeface available in digital form.
Revised in 2020 by Ross together with Neelakash Kshetrimayum and extended to five
weights, commissioned by Monotype.
ABP is a custom version used by publisher
Anandabazar Patrika. A first version was made by Deborani
Dattagupta in 1996 by retracing Linotype Bengali. In
2015, Ross was commissioned with a new version. A headline weight,
ABP Extra Bold, was first employed in February 2016.

2015, made as “an alternative voice for textual
composition”, debuted in March 2017 in Regular and
Bold. [UoR]
