Patented August 4, 1896. [Inland specimen] “Woodward was designed for Inland Type Foundry in 1894 by William A. Schraubstadter, and named for a Saint Louis printer. Other versions [Condensed, Extra Condensed, Extended] followed over the next few years. In 1911 Inland was purchased by ATF and its equipment divided between that foundry and BB&S. Some time later BB&S reissued Woodward and Woodward Outline as DeVinne Recut and DeVinne Recut Outline.” [McGrew 1993] See also Courts, which was reissued as DeVinne Recut Italic.
