Korea Town Acid is an electronic music artist and DJ from Toronto, Canada. The cover art for her album record Elephant in the Room was designed by me, Murathan Biliktu. I made a custom typeface for the album called BM Elephand, which was inspired by the childlike, therapeutic, and raw theme of the record. I also created various gig posters for Korea Town Acid, which mainly use fonts by my Biliktü Foundry.

Desvío is a photobook designed for photographer Pep Escoda by Barcelona-based studio DOMO–A. This is an artistic book about the “diversion” made in Tarragona which has caused the cutting of natural paths and the separation of urban centres.

This post shows the poster series that was made as part of the promotion of the book.

Center 18: Music in Architecture: Architecture in Music is the 18th edition in a series published by the Center for American Architecture and Design, a program within the School of Architecture at the University of Texas at Austin.

The academic journal explores the relationship between music and architecture with a series of 19 essays by noted scholars. Our design presents the essays and images in an elegant but straightforward way, employing Acta by Dino dos Santos. The strong use of black and white used throughout the book subtly evokes the keys on a piano.

This Newsweek redesign by Dirk Barnett launched soon after Tina Brown took the editorial helm at the magazine. Barnett’s comments on the new logo:

“Let's just say this new logo evolution had many incarnations that are now on the cutting room floor. And the one that was eventually published was almost on that floor as of 48 hours before we hit the presses, so I'm ecstatic we were able to change the logo, in the end. The whole magazine's design is based on two typefaces, Titling Gothic and Acta. The logo came from Titling, and I hired Jim Parkinson to take it and make it beautiful. Being the mastermind behind the last 40 years of the Newsweek logo, he was the perfect man for the job. At the end of the process, we had two new logos, one a modern take on the slab, and the one you see here. As Jim pointed out, running with the Titling logo was a perfect way to announce to the readers our new direction, as the whole inside has it running throughout. As for the red box, it has remained, although let's just say there was much debate about that one, but in the end, and being such a staple of Newsweek’s design DNA, it endured, and I think the solution is strong, and consistent.” — Dirk Barnett at SPD’s Grids

Pages from the relaunched and renamed Silicon Valley Business Journal, one of more than forty local business newspapers from American City Business Journals.

Signal vs. Noise is a weblog by celebrated designers and web app makers 37signals. Acta Display is used for headlines and Kepler for text. (On my Retina MacBook screen, the Kepler italic renders noticeably heavier than the roman. I wonder if others have the same experience.) Proxima Nova is the foundation typeface for 37signals’ main site and their flagship product Basecamp. It’s used in the header and footer navigation.
