Kupferplatte (German for “copperplate”) was
Ludwig &
Mayer’s name for a design that originated at Wagner & Schmidt, see Salon-Antiqua / Noblesse, and cast before
1909. [Wetzig 1926–40] [Reichardt 2011]
The design was revised and re-issued under the same name in
1950. [DIN index card] Key differences include: more open ‘C’,
smaller middle serif in ‘E’/‘F’, less heavy transitions in serifs
at hairlines, wider ‘M’/‘N’, with the middle vertex of ‘M’ above
the baseline, ‘R’ with notch between bowl and leg, narrower
‘J’/‘S’/‘T’, straight-top ‘5’. There might be differences across
the various sizes.
