Super Smash Bros. is a 1999 crossover fighting video game developed by HAL Laboratory and published by Nintendo for the Nintendo 64.

The wacky, comic book-like style of the game’s international logo can be attributed to three fonts in particular: Pritchard, ITC Kabel Bold and Surface Rough.

Pritchard is a constructivist typeface made by Martin Wait for Letraset in 1990, used here for the words SUPER and BROS. The Super Smash Bros. logo uses a modified version of Pritchard, which rounds the bottom of the U, instead of its usually pointed bottom.

ITC Kabel Bold is a geometric font drawn by Victor Caruso in the 1970s, based on Rudolf Koch’s Kabel (Klingspor, 1927). It is used for the big and boisterous SMASH lettering, giving the logo its signature comic strip onomatopœia appearance.

Surface Rough is a chalk-like distressed typeface, used within the SMASH lettering with a reversed gradient, giving the logo a classic, 90s ‘radical’ graphic design look.

The header graphic on the Nintendo website uses Lithos for the sound effects.
