Store Norske Neon is a remix of the metal standardbokstaver-alphabet (“standard letters“) used by the sign makers at Neon Electric Limited AS, one of the main neon sign suppliers in Norway in the mid-20th century. The alphabet had a lot of alternates, to match the criteria of the client. The characteristic holes in the in the letters were used as exits and entrances for the neon pipes, the longer ones are for when the pipes need to loop to cover the whole letter. Originally part of the lettering series made for the exhibition Skrift i Oslo [Båtevik]. No lowercase.
