Here or elsewhere, how do we embrace a place we love? That’s the question Kamil Zihnioglu has been asking himself for the past five years as he explores Corsica and meets its inhabitants. Press photographer in Paris, he decided in October 2020 to leave his city to live on the island. This marked the start of an impossible quest: to capture in images the identity of this land and the people who live there. Like a mirror, the waters of the Mediterranean reflected his own face. “Who are you?” they seemed to ask him. Leaving aside his approach as a journalist, he was able to embark on a new journey without destination, exploring the feelings that this island provokes.

French graphic designer Théo Miller used Album Sans designed by Thomas Huot-Marchand (205TF) and Traulha designed by Yoann Minet (Bureau Brut).

This 36-page booklets were designed by French graphic artist Fanette Mellier. From her portfolio page (translated):

In these booklets for the contemporary music ensemble Proxima Centauri, the graphic composition on the cover schematizes the famous constellation, with subtle variations in color scheme.
The photographs are grouped together in a square-format booklet, placed at the head and center of the brochure. The images appear in a subtle shimmer, linked to the metallic pigments in the ink. The play of contrasts, reflections and balance resonates with the artistic approach of the whole.

To compose the text, she used the typeface Album Sans by Thomas Huot-Marchand (205TF).

Énergies Désespoirs. Un monde à réparer (“Energies Despairs. A world to repair”) is the catalogue of the eponymous exhibition initiated and designed by Encore Heureux Architectes and the École Urbaine de Lyon, installed at the Centquatre-Paris from May to August 2021.

The exhibition explores two opposing sides of our contemporary planet:
— The crisis of the Earth’s habitability revealed by more and more signs and documented by science;
— The initiatives, at different scales, which testify to the possible repair of this world damaged by the impact of human activities.

The book, like the exhibition, puts in tension the despair that arises from the observation of environmental damage and the energy that comes from experimenting with ecological reorientation of our ways of living. It includes a text by José-Manuel Gonçalvès, a preface by Jean-Christophe Bailly, an interview with the curatorial team and a set of 120 large-format paintings by the artist Bonnefrite. This work, as a vector of an engaged imagination, seeks to transmit a direct emotion, but also a collective thought.

In order to open up the reflection undertaken in the exhibition and to deepen certain issues raised, the book also includes the answers of fifteen personalities to the question “What is your despair? What is your energy?” and the republication of five articles from the daily online newspaper AOC.

To design this book, Bureau 205 used Album Sans and Album Slab by Thomas Huot-Marchand.

This monograph edited by Vincent Romagny and Hugo Pernet, designed by Bureau 205 and published by Éditions 205 presents Frédéric Houvert’s work over fifteen years, through his relationship with the notions of ornament, decoration and abstraction. It’s punctuated by four “albums” of images that bring together the different media used by the artist (painting, sculpture, photography, and drawing).

Somewhere between a magazine and a fanzine, A°2021 is an original editorial object co-published by the École urbaine de Lyon and Éditions deux-cent-cinq. It brings together texts by numerous authors from a variety of scientific, literary and artistic fields that allow us to understand the notion of the Anthropocene.

What we propose to call the “Anthropocene” is the historical moment that began after 1945 with the onset of the phase of generalised urbanisation of the planet, during which it becomes undeniable that human activities are having an increasingly strong impact on biophysical systems. These upheavals can be observed everywhere, both globally and locally. To such an extent that the Earth’s habitability for humans and non-humans is being questioned.

The aim here is to revisit thought and social phenomena based on the recognition of this crisis of habitability on an unprecedented scale and to propose avenues for reflection and action so that we can collectively invent new ways of co-habiting.

Ensuring that we can reflect on and discuss these major contemporary issues is a requirement at the heart of the second issue of the magazine and of the Urban School's public service mission.
