Origin unclear. Used already in 1973. Shown in Dan X. Solo’s Art Deco Display Alphabets in 1982 as Eclipse.

The digital version originated at Compugraphic and is now sold by Monotype. Another digitization by Tim Ryan used to be available as Eclipse Caps (Type Revivals, 1997).
