Part of a series of Japanese fonts started by Coji Morishita in 2003. Official spellings include M+ and M PLUS. The name stands for “above minimum”. This entry covers M PLUS 1 (shown), M PLUS 1p (a variant with proportional Latin and fixed-fullwidth Japanese), and M PLUS 2. The latter is a stylistic variant with a livelier look, distinguished by round dots, a round-top ‘3’, some curved/angled (instead of straight) strokes in the Japanese glyphs, and bulging bowls (‘BDPR’) and an ‘M’ with splayed legs in the Latin caps.
