Guest edited and designed by Gail Swanlund, Emigre #28 includes interviews with Laurie Haycock Makela, Somi Kim, and Barbara Glauber who also designed the inside cover. Like most issues of Emigre the magazine was an opportunity to show off a new Emigre typeface. In this case it was the wild OutWest by Edward Fella, a designer best known for his lettering. An ad for the font is shown on the last page: “OutWest: On a fifteen degree ellipse”, as well as a preview of the upcoming Backspacer. OutWest is used throughout the issue – even for text – along with Citizen and Template Gothic.
