The upcoming Blu-ray by Rarovideo appropriately sports the font Cinema Macabre on its cover art, with a straightforward title treatment that takes full advantage of the alternative characters built into this font. You’ll notice that all four of the small cap R characters have a slightly different appearance. This helps to avoid repetitious characters, which always ruins a hand-drawn aesthetic.

The Cinema Macabre font was heavily influenced by the Italian giallo brand of horror, a more murder-mystery-led genre made famous by films such as Suspiria, Deep Red, and Tenebrae, so it’s interesting to see the work go full circle and appear on a Giallo reissue.

This post was originally published at Fonts In Use
