Retinal Rivalry is the soundtrack to Cyprien Gaillard’s 2024 stereoscopic film and is released by PAN as a special picture-disc vinyl and a digital edition. For its titles, they chose the delicate Ceraph by Emma Piercy, available at Sharp Type. Named after the visual phenomenon of conflicting perception, the work pushes the limits of both image and sound, using ultra-high-speed 3D projection to render everyday urban landscapes uncanny and hyper-real. Its dissonant score – combining reworked Indonesian instrumental music, industrial field recordings, and bodily sounds – underscores the film’s destabilising vision, while quoting Aguirre, the Wrath of God by Werner Herzog with music by Popol Vuh. Conceived as a stand-alone sonic work within PAN’s ENTOPIA series, the soundtrack treats sound not as accompaniment but as a structuring force, amplifying the film’s tension between sensory overload, disorientation, and moments of fragile beauty. The film will be presented at Haus der Kunst in Munich from October 17, 2025, to March 8, 2026.

The L.A. Review of the Moving Image documents the shifting landscape of film culture in Los Angeles. Over the past decade, the city’s creative life has expanded beyond its traditional centers, moving away from Hollywood premieres and studio theaters into a constellation of smaller, experimental spaces. Today, moving images circulate through artist-run cinemas, living room screenings, rooftops, cemeteries, guerrilla file shares, Twitch streams, and group chats. This dispersed yet coherent network reflects a culture where watching, rewatching, editing, and remixing have become collective rituals.

The Review approaches the moving image not simply as content, but as encounter; asking where films are shown, how they are shared, and how they reshape communities and publics. It positions itself within this fragmented geography as both observer and participant, chronicling the ways moving images continue to organize memory, desire, and cultural identity in Los Angeles.

The newspaper and the marketing materials use Ceraph, a flaring semi-serif designed by Emma Piercy available at Sharp Type. Ceraph’s distinctive blend of sharpness and warmth mirrors the project’s contemporary and experimental spirit. Its versatility makes it well-suited for both editorial contexts and promotional materials, giving the Review a consistent yet characterful typographic voice. The project was led by art director Ellie Sunlight Moon, with editorial direction by Anthony Tran. Contributions were made by Mariah Flores, and publishing guidance was provided by Rachel Rosenfelt.

Launched in Spring 2020, Pioneer Works Broadcast is a virtual and annual print magazine that encourages radical thinking across the arts, sciences, music, and literature. Broadcast reflects the spirit of Pioneer Works and extends beyond the space’s physical walls in Brooklyn through narrative-driven journalism, essays, criticism, ruminations, video, audio, and much more. For their Death Week Series, they used Ceraph by Emma Piercy, available at Sharp Type.

The new Broadway production of Othello, directed by Kenny Leon, features Denzel Washington as Othello and Jake Gyllenhaal as Iago. Set in a modern military environment with minimalist staging, the play blends contemporary elements like fatigues and suits with Shakespeare’s original text. Washington portrays Othello as an older, seasoned leader, while Gyllenhaal makes his Shakespearean debut as the manipulative Iago. The merchandising T-shirts and hoodies featured the Ceraph typeface, designed by Emma Piercy.

The first issue of Powertrip Worldwide, “Play”, is dedicated to the worlds of jiu-jitsu, judo, and wrestling. Through striking visuals, in-depth stories, and a raw, unfiltered perspective, the fanzine explores the culture, history, and techniques of grappling. Inside the Riso printed pages you can expect a mix of insightful interviews, personal accounts, and bold design that captures the spirit of combat sports. This inaugural issue explores play as a mode and motivation for our training. It is limited to 335 copies in its original colorway and comes with a large poster.

The publisher choose Sharp Earth for paragraph text and played with Emma Piercy’s latest release Ceraph and members of Marc Rouault’s Doss collection: Exaflop, Acid, and Problem. They also used Vertigo, an unreleased typeface by My-Lan Thuong.

​Dripping is an annual music and arts festival held in Sparta, New Jersey, that celebrates a diverse array of live performances and DJ sets, encompassing genres from experimental electronic to soulful compositions. Beyond music, Dripping fosters community engagement through workshops, art installations, and communal activities, emphasizing inclusivity and environmental respect. In 2025, Dripping will take place over three nights. Performances will take place indoors and outside. The site is a beautiful 200 acres of forest, wooded paths, and a large private lake.

For the 2025 poster lineup, designed by M.C. Madrigal, they used Ceraph, distributed by Sharp Type, and the artist names were set in full caps, using all the discretionary ligatures Emma Piercy designed for this typeface. They also chose to activate the stylistic set of the swash capitals on the R and the N. The name DRIPPING uses the stylistic No. 2 of the font: the diamond capital I. Additional info is set in the two brand typefaces of Dripping: DM Mono by Colophon, and Basel Grotesk by Chi-Long Trieu.

Eye magazine is a quarterly print magazine on graphic design and visual culture. Each year they dedicate an issue of their magazine to type design. Featuring great names in the type field they interviewed Chantra Malee and Lucas Sharp from Sharp Type, related the journey of Anita Klinz at Mondadori, wrote about the challenges faced by Type Archive, remembered Phil Baines and finally questioned established notions of global type with Toshiya Izumo, TienMin Liao, Borna Izadpanah, and Sam Kim, Siyu Mao and Dokho Shin.

They produced three different covers with the same title set in three different fonts:
1. Sharp Grotesk Black 11, designed by Lucas Sharp of Sharp Type
2. Dash Casual Light, designed by Petra Dočekalová for Typotheque
3. Ceraph, designed by Emma Piercy for Sharp Type

The text inside is set up in Sharp Serif Text, a new text typeface designed by Lucas Sharp and released in spring 2024.

To honor the 120th anniversary of the first meeting between Henry Royce and Charles Rolls, Magneto magazine went to the childhood home of Charles Rolls. Located in Rockfield, this residence is the only full-scale Victorian country house in the county of Monmouthshire, Wales, United Kingdom, it was photographed by Greg White.

Andrew Frankel, writer of the article, examines the life, influence and enduring legacy of Charles Rolls. For the layout of this article, Peter Allen, Magneto’s art director, used Ceraph for titles. This new typeface was designed by Emma Percy and is available at SharpType. Ceraph comes with an almost infinite ligature set, which makes the titles and quote pages very interesting.

Based in Nashville, Tennessee, Consider the Wldflwrs is a fine jeweler specialized in designing and hand-crafting engagement rings or custom pieces. They also perform jewelry restoration and repair.

For their communication and website, the company chose to use Ceraph, designed by Emma Piercy and soon to be released by Sharp Type. It is paired it with Sequel Sans for body text; the monospaced typeface used for buttons and links is DM Mono. The logo combines roman caps and italics from ITC Novarese.

Emma Piercy began Ceraph in 2018 as an experiment, a sketched word featuring whiplash forms and flared serifs. “It slowly evolved into a more ambitious and refined project. I wanted the typeface to embody grace and strength, and this aim was the north star throughout its development. This is my first serious undertaking of typeface design, and it took a year on-and-off to settle on the concept.” This typeface comes with several unexpected ligatures for the uppercase, such as the C and the O inside, the H and E sharing a stem, etc. By setting their headlines in capitals, Consider the Wldflwrs play with the magical features of this typeface.

The logo in ITC Novarese was introduced together with the new typefaces as part of the 2023 redesign.
