    <title>Nāru in use</title>
    <link>https://fontsinuse.com/typefaces/235644/naru</link>
    <description>Nāru in use. Nāru (ナール), or NAR, is a Japanese rounded typeface by Shaken. It was submitted by Yukihiro Nakamura to the 1st Ishii Award Creative Typeface Contest held in 1970 in which in placed 1st. It was further developed with supervision from Kazuo Hashimoto and released in 1972. The name is a portmanteau of “Nakamura” and “Round”.&#13;
&#13;
The first weight to be released was Nāru which resembles a fine weight. Nāru D was released a year later. In 1975, two more weights and one outline variant were added as Nāru L, M, and O. In 1977, Nāru E was released. Shadow variants were released in 1985 as Nāru OS and SH. Nāru DB followed in 1987 and Nāru H and U in 1995.&#13;
&#13;
In 1994, Shaken also released a different set of kana design for Nāru L, M, D, DB, and E to be used for children’s reading.&#13;
&#13;
As of 2024, Morisawa will be releasing a digital conversion which will include the weights EL and E.&#13;
&#13;
Seurat by Fontworks is somewhat similar.</description>
