A custom typeface for Japanese cosmetic brand Shiseido, commissioned in 1991 from
Adrian Frutiger. Based on the wordmark that the
brand has been using since the early 20th century, and a capital
alphabet derived from it, drawn by Mitsugu Maeda in 1927. Designed
in two weights with upper- and lowercase, numerals, and
punctuation. Includes an alternate ‘S’. Drawings executed by
Serge
Cortesi. Extended to Japanese without the involvement of

Jason Castle was commissioned to add three new
weights (extra light, extra bold, medium), and clean up the digital
