Description of the project by the WestLicht Museum;

Tagada is not just one of the most iconic rides at Vienna’s Prater amusement park – for teenagers on the cusp of adulthood, it’s a rite of passage and a place of retreat. It’s where they meet up, smoke, flirt, make out, perform, test their limits, and measure themselves against others. On the spinning disc, they experience fleeting moments of weightlessness – both literally and figuratively.

In the summer of 2020, during the COVID pandemic, Florian Rainer spent time with these teenagers, capturing their world in a photographic coming-of-age story.

From the author's perspective, there are two stages – the disc above and the plaza below. The book architecture reflects this: instead of left and right pages, it reads as ‘Top’ and ‘Bottom.’

The title uses a modified FF DIN Round, inspired by the neon lettering on TAGADA’s ticket booth. Body and ancillary text are set in AC Youth from AllCaps, whose late-’80s energy we felt was ideal for the project’s funpark vibe.

Back in 2013, Marseille was designated as the European Capital of Culture, a label coveted by all European Union cities. A place of intense economic and cultural exchanges between the two shores of the Mediterranean, Marseille occupies a special place in France. The event reduced the distances in the territory, bringing Arles, Salon-de-Provence, Martigues, Aix-en-Provence, Aubagne, and Istres closer together. The partners were committed to creating a large scale, internationally renowned cultural event that promotes the cultural identities of the region through a dialogue between Europe and the Mediterranean. This project aimed to bring together all relevant stakeholders, producing lasting impacts on the cultural, economic, urban, and social aspects of the territory, with the goal of enhancing its international appeal and visibility.

Lyon-based graphic designer Thomas Serrière was in charge of creating the identity for the event. He worked on various mediums, from posters to badges, from signage to flyers, to cover the whole event.

The identity is based on a typographical system. I designed a complete visual language in order to provide the maximum versatility and expression across every channel, format or material. The typeface was developed with André Baldinger, adapting his BVH BDot in which we introduced little “diamonds”. The MP2013 logo itself consists of a very tiny hyphen, linking all the places, events, dates of the capital year.

The logo combines BVH BLine and FF DIN Round. Some applications additionally use FF DIN.

The hello gorgeous foundation’s mission is to normalize (living with) HIV by reducing stigma and self-stigma. We’re a community organization that wants to empower people living with HIV so they can become more visible: more visibility of HIV is the best way to reduce stigma.

Since 2010, we have produced several anti-stigma campaigns and unique concepts to tackle stigma and self-stigma. We produce a quarterly print magazine in Dutch for people living with HIV and their friends, families and health care professionals, and have made several ant-stigma campaigns for general audiences.

The logo is set in ITC American Typewriter. FF DIN Round is used for the smaller bits on the cover. Inside the magazine Vista Slab and Vista Sans are the leading fonts.

Obie's Worms sustainably rears insects as pet treats. The market for sustainably-farmed insects as pet treats is broad. The Obie’s team needed to hone in on the largest and most lucrative market opportunity for their product.

We reviewed and assessed Obie’s market hypotheses through primary and secondary market research (should they aim their pet treats at reptile and amphibian owners, or backyard chicken owners?), presenting a solid case for targeting people with cold-blooded pets. We leveraged these market insights to develop a unique and playful-yet-modern consumer brand, and created a fun and effective ecomms touchpoint aimed at reptile and amphibian pet owners to help the Obie’s team pursue this audience.

Where all text on the packaging is set in FF DIN and FF DIN Rounded, the website uses two weights of Roboto for its typography.

Alio provides superscript nested glyphs via the OpenType feature Discretionary Ligatures. For the logo, the e was enlarged, though. The apostrophe is customized, too.

East Sydney Early Learning & Community Centre is a state of the art space located on Bourke Street. It provides childcare places for parents living or working in the inner city suburbs of Sydney. The centre, designed by ABA Architects, features five play rooms set over three levels, indoor playground on each floor and an open-air play area on the top floor. The space also includes a distinctive signage and wayfinding system, developed by Australian graphic design studio Toko, inspired by children’s building blocks and featuring FF DIN Round.

It's not every day, or every year for that matter, that a website's reviews section revamp get's so much coverage and evident importance from an international community. But we are talking about IGN.com, the leading online channel for anything entertainment, particularly anything video game related.

Last night IGN premiered their new Reviews format with the an extended review of the game Borderlands 2. With more than half a million followers on Twitter and nearly a million on Facebook (and who knows how many users worldwide), something like this becomes a major event. To IGN and especially their readers, this is a big deal, and rightly so. It's all about presentation and interaction with the public, isn't it? And with such a vibrantly active website community, that's not a small thing.

About the design: in fitting IGN tradition, it looks massive! The new format uses a responsive design that fits itself and the text size to your screen sizes. So much so, that when scaling the browser window to full widescreen size, you get your neighbors from across the street to join in reading what looks like a whopping 24pt size! Ok, this might need some tweeking, but it just goes to show the spirit behind the design.

The majority of the typography uses ARS Maquette Web with some help from FF DIN Round. The Header/Titles & Scores are huge but fitting. The red and black colors contrast well with the generous white space. The text is, as I said, set large and very readable with nice layout details the further you scroll down the page. Overall the new page looks striking indeed. Does this mean there are more changes ahead to the IGN website? I hope so, as large chunk of it can look kind of generic and stale by now.

It is obvious that the new Reviews format had a clear idea in mind — presumably a grander, more modern product presentation, clarity and attention to the essentials, while opening a broader community interaction. Judging by the response and 1550 comments so far, I'd say they've nailed it!
