French sleeve for “Never Ending Song of Love”, a 1971 hit single by Delaney & Bonnie, a husband-and-wife duo consisting of Delaney Bramlett (1939–2008) and Bonnie Bramlett (b.1944).

The bold display cutie with the circular counters is Zan. Drawn by Albert Boton for Hollenstein in 1970, it was released in digital form with FontFont in 2002.

Posted as part of a series that pays tribute to Albert Boton, one of the preeminent French type designers of the past sixty years. Albert Boton died on July 20, 2023, at the age of 91.

A striking use of Zan for the title of the paperback, a typeface designed by Albert Boton, the designer of Eras and Black Boton. Curiously, this cover is a double bill for Boton with a use of his more elusive Brasilia compact for the subtitle and author name. The logo of publisher Calmann-Lévy appears to be in caps from Futura Extra Bold Condensed.

Zan is an early typeface design by the great Albert Boton (*1932), a fat display face based on “four basic shapes — circle, triangle, square, and the St. Andrew’s Cross” — Corpus typographique français. Originally created for the French phototype studio Hollenstein in 1970, it was issued in digital form in 2002 as FF Zan. Together with FF Aircraft, FF District, and FF Studio, it forms the FF Bastille Display collection.
