It was “digitized by hand between 1989 and 1992 on the Ikarus system [and] expanded.” [Devroye] Polo was probably the first typeface to offer optical sizes (11 and 22) in digital form. [Übele] Today, the Polo family as offered in OpenType by TypeManufactur spans five weights with Italics, each available in three optical sizes (11, 22, 66). Further, there are Cyrillics, (upright) small caps, two display cuts (Fino, Extralight), ten condensed, eight narrow and two extracondensed styles. A serif companion named Kant hasn’t been released as of 2022. Hamburg-based branding agency Peter Schmidt Group has used Georg Salden’s Polo as its identity typeface since at least as far back as 2004. This website design launched in 2014.
