Designed by Josef Tyfa in 1959, “Tyfa Roman was released in 1960 by Grafotechna in Prague for hot setting. Later on, Berthold produced letter matrices for Staromat devices, used for manual photosetting of display alphabets. In the eighties it was available on dry transfers of Transotype and today it is offered also by ITC.” [Storm]
Tyfa Antiqua Pro (2013) is Storm Type’s reprise of ITC Tyfa (František Štorm, 1996) — “restored faithfully to the author’s intention”. The changes include design details and a greatly expanded character set with small caps and Cyrillics. The family features special Text cuts in which the hairstrokes have been thickened by one third.
