The mission of Female Photoclub e.V. is to draw attention to injustices in the photography industry, shape public discourse, and ensure that the perspectives of female photographers are seen. This is because professional photography, especially in the fields of advertising and photojournalism, is still a cis-male-dominated domain. The association has been instrumental in initiating the debate on inequalities in the industry in Germany and wants to drive change. To this end, the FPC offers a safe space for constructive exchange and a broad network of photographers and supporters.

Taking Space – Creating Space: The corporate design of the Female Photoclub stands for attitude, visibility, and the occupation and reclaiming of space by FLINTA* photographers: the graphic elements open up the space, shift it, and reclaim it. The brackets of the word mark are reminiscent of an aperture. They frame, focus, and make visible. At the same time, they separate the word fe*male in a special way: the asterisk and the bracket refer to identities outside binary structures. The gap becomes a stage for self-designation, diversity, and identity. An aperture in the typographical sense: light penetrates through it, creating visibility.

This unique book by Benjamin Rubloff features a stunning body of paintings, each inspired by fragmentary photographs of graffiti, with each piece named after the location where the photo was taken. A short text by the artist accompanies each painting, providing insight into his personal thoughts and experiences. The book concludes with a series of photographs, each labeled with GPS coordinates, marking the location of the original graffiti. A beautiful essay by Duncan Ballantyne-Way provides further context and reflection. Published by Verlag Kettler.

Designed to blend into the decor, the book Couleurs Sarah takes up the codes of the House. Namely: a joyful association of signature shades. The 319 pages of the book Couleurs Sarah offer creative associations of shades, the fruit of the reflection of the architect and interior designer.

This project was inspired by the literary work of José Luís Peixoto and the locations in Abrantes, Constância, and Sardoal linked to the writer. It was developed to create a literary urban experience, materialized in a series of concrete blocks that evoke the pages of a book, allowing the texts to occupy and transform the public space. Each block represents a ‘page’, exploiting a distinctive typographic design that emphasizes the depth of the textual content.

The structure of the text supports was conceived from a parallelepiped with displaced vertices to create organic and asymmetrical pieces. This modular solution allows for a versatile arrangement of the blocks: on the floor, on walls, vertically or horizontally, adapting to different spatial contexts. The graphic layout of the texts refers directly to the aesthetics of a book page, reinforcing the concept of literature as a visual intervention in urban space. The texts are stenciled using GT Sectra, which adds a contemporary touch and contributes to the work’s cohesive visual identity.

The book Storie Spaziali per Maschi del Futuro is a collection of 12 fairy tales written by Francesca Cavallo and illustrated by Luis San Vicente. The book design by Francesca Zucchi features Marcus from MA-MA Type in combination with GT Sectra by Grilli Type.

The book Topographie discrète – scénario pour un texte sans dimensions (“Discrete Topography – scenario for a text without dimensions”) was co-written by philosopher Anne-Françoise Schmid and artist Ivan Liovik Ebel. It takes the form of short texts presented as two columns, which do not explicitly address or respond to each other, but nevertheless subtly communicate. Each chapter is interrupted textually by a chorus, referring to Greek tragedy.

Merlin Studio is a a Creative Code Boutique based in Haarlem, the Netherlands. The website uses GT America and GT Sectra. GT America, in bold for titles, makes strong statements and stands out. Adding motion to these titles brings the site to life, making it more engaging. GT Sectra, used for more detailed text, adds a touch of elegance and contrasts well with the boldness of GT America. This combination creates a professional and inviting look that perfectly blends modern style with traditional elegance.

In an unusual project, students from the Technical University of Dortmund and the Justus Liebig University of Gießen have focused on their cities photographically. Now the result is available in perhaps the most urban print medium of all: a newspaper.

In the seminar led by Felix Dobbert, we developed a design grid with the students. In addition to the text pages I designed, the students each lay out their photographs on a double page. With texts by Niklas Gliesmann, Claudia Hattendorff, Barbara Welzel und Andreas Zeising. Printed by Mittelhessisches Druck- und Verlagshaus.

TT Nooks is used as the headline font and gives a modern look to the usual newspaper design. GT Sectra is used for body text, revealing its special shapes only on second glance. The rigid grid of the newspaper is broken up by twisted headlines and broad quotations.

The design for the 2019 edition of the Dublin Fringe Festival combined a multitude of disparate influences into a campaign that was playful and inventive, theatrical, and textured with the topic “superweirdos”. It utilised three artists taking part in the festival as representatives of the breadth of talent that makes up Fringe. The artists were styled in structured, contemporary garments and set against recognisable (but not cliché) locations from Dublin’s built environment.

Irish design studio Nugno selected Cosi Times from Nikolas Type as the main typeface, used for headlines. Supporting copy is set in GT America and GT Sectra from Grilli Type for the festival’s visual identity and magazine.

Public Image art directed and designed the digital Spring/Summer 2022 lookbook by fashion label Rodebjer using Malamocco Medium.

La troisième vérité is a book created for an audio exhibition in the streets of la Chaux-de-Fonds. The reading and folding system of the book is inspired by the way the spectator follows the exhibition. From author Camille Mermet:

Where Are We Now is a publication which showcases the work of Master students graduated in 2014–2015 at Sint Lucas Antwerp. This publication is used as an archive to show their work. It also questions where the students are at this place in their lives.

On the cover you can find all the categories that are used throughout the book. These were integrated to give a quick look at the students’ profiles. It is also useful to show the diversity of projects that are in the publication.

The goal was to create a dynamic composition with typography. Thus creating a system in which we could place the dutch and english text next to each other without interfering with legibility.

The Central Intelligence Agency has long failed to recruit younger and more diverse candidates. Maybe it's their history of orchestrating deadly military coups, or their litany of human rights violations, or perhaps, as Vice points out, it's that many of the diverse candidates they're trying to attract can trace their heritage to places that the agency has undermined and destabilized.

Regardless of reason, it's their image as a stuffy Ivy-league boys club that motivated the CIA's trendy rebrand. In a direct appeal to younger candidates, the updated website is more reminiscent of a Millennial direct-to-consumer popup brand than a staid government agency, and prominently displays their careers page and updated jobs portal. The main website showcases a suite of fonts from Swiss foundry Grilli Type. It features GT America for titles, headers, and body copy, exclusively using the extended and expanded widths. Other headers and pull-quotes are set in GT Sectra, while some UI elements use GT America Mono.

Holm is a boutique collection of just 14 townhomes nestled high above the tree canopies of the Bardon Valley. The identity, created for HG Developments, consists of the name, a refined logo, monogram and nature-inspired colour palette with an illustration style that captures the sophisticated idiosyncrasies of Bardon and the laidback feel of the lifestyle on offer. The monogram is made up of 14 flower petals, each petal representing one of the unique townhomes.

The want driving this project was to represent both sides surrounding the debate around consciousness; ensuring each viewpoint was represented equally. However, purely visualizing their debate was not enough. By allowing an audience to actually engage in the discussions, they can come to their own conclusions through critical thinking. From this problem identification, the design solution of debate cards developed. This document, illusion: what will you talk about? cataloged a debate by philosopher Mary Midgley and scientist, Colin Blakemore.

Four large ‘zine’ style publications each reflect a lobe of the brain. Debate cards were visually colour coded to fit into larger publications, which would let a reader investigate the topic more. This ensured the cards and the publications could each stand-alone, but together work efficiently to gather the information quickly. The size of the zines and the cards are based on research as to the average size of the brain.

On the larger publications, the debate is presented as one continuous thought, meant to act like this whole disagreement is in the head of the reader. The debate cards allow for other individuals to participate and the main content works in another way when more people are involved.

The addition of kinograms, which is a paper animation technique was added to create another dimension. Kinograms erase and change the type below using acetate and thin lines. This tied conceptually with the debate, reflecting how our brains consist of grey and white matter. The hope is that this solution could be used for other large debates on important human issues.

GT Sectra and Maison Neue were chosen to portray the debates for various reasons. GT Sectra is a contemporary serif typeface combining the calligraphy of the broad nib pen with the sharpness of the scalpel knife. It was originally designed for use in the long-form journalism magazine Reportagen. Reportagen is a beautiful visual combination of two worlds, journalism and magazines. Symbolically, this is reflected in the typeface. It was the best choice for the project as it could represent both a typed letterform and a handcrafted one. The use of book in the body copy and the use of display for the debate cards ensured that the conventional choices and interpretations of the type designer could be respected.

Maison Neue is the reworked version of Milieu Grotesque’s Maison typeface family. While the original version was constructed on geometric principles, Maison Neue has been meticulously redrawn with a stronger focus on optical criteria to create a distinct grotesque—paying particular attention to harmony, rhythm and flow. Maison Neue was chosen for it's harmony with GT Sectra, but also its dual-layered creation. It works well at smaller sizes within the documents and as marginalia.

It was awarded membership into the International Society of Typographic Designers and exhibited in TU Dublin end of year show.

Bailas Contemporary Coiffure was founded by Düsseldorf-based hairdresser Apostolos Bailas and stands for exclusive hairdressing art. The core of the brand concept is the close connection between the master hairdresser and his guest as well as a highly individualised service – with exactly one styling chair. From the welcome to the farewell, Apostolos Bailas is the only contact for its guests.

We accompanied Apostolos Bailas since his idea, strategically advised him on business modeling and have been responsible for the design of all communication.

Sonntag 24. Juni 2035 is the first novel of Münster-based journalist Klaus Baumeister. It tells a futuristic story about Münster yet deals with the religious history of this very place. The whole plot plays in a time frame of 500 minutes — the last few hours on a countdown clock that leads to the unveiling of an art installation made from the old cages of the Lamberti church.

The cover typeface ABC Prophet fuses the historical background and futuristic setting of this novel, being calligraphic in the details yet modern and geometric in its overall architecture. The text of the novel is set in GT Sectra, which follows a related idea of a broad nib pen construction. The scalpel knife details of this typeface add an exciting tension to the running text.

Instead of being structured by chapters, the plot is divided into 500 pieces, referring to the last 500 minutes before the big show. This countdown is set in a lighter weight of Prophet to stand out from the rest of the text.

The Fermentary is a Daylesford-base, Australian small-batch producer of naturally fermented food and beverage products. They’re focused on crafting delicious, minimal intervention ferments by pairing ancient wisdom and diverse traditions, with present-day science and practice. Melbourne based designer Anna Topalidou redesigned their brand identity along with print, digital and packaging material.

The visual identity is informed by scientific and fermentation traditions—past and present, near and far. Line illustrations weave through stories of history, science, cultural tradition, alchemy and raw ingredients. Calligraphic and serif typography (GT Sectra and Monotype Baskerville) introduce the east and the west along with relevant time periods and meet an absence of colour to offset the naturally vibrant range of ferments.
