A revision of Helvetica schmalfett (see
Commercial-Grotesk, Helvetica Condensed), redrawn for
large-size machine setting (Großkegelsatz) by Arthur
Ritzel for Linotype. Helvetica Inserat is slightly
narrower, has shorter descenders, and is distinguished by a
diagonal ‘Q’ tail. The open ‘4’ is unique to Inserat
among digital versions. However, it can also be found in a
(revised?) version of Stempel’s Helvetica schmalfett
(and schmalhalbfett). [“Ein guter Griff Helvetica”
specimen, c. 1959]. There is also an
(oblique) Helvetica Inserat Kursiv. [Linotype
Großkegelschriften specimen, c. 1970] Released by Stempel [sic!] in 1966
[Adobe/MyFonts]
or 1969 [Berthold Types, 1988].
Bitstream’s digital version is named Swiss 921. See also Triumvirate Inserat and More…
