Designed by Martin Wilke, originally for a series of ads for Cadillac in the mid 1920s. [Wilke] First cast in 1933 by Woellmer as Wilke-Kursiv. Wilke Versalien is a matching set of simpler inclined caps. From 1938, the pair was carried by Schriftguss as Burgund (Kursiv) and Ambassador (Versalien).
Carried by Photo-Lettering as Ambassador Cursive with Swashes. [PLINC One Liner 1971]
In his digital revival (Canada Type, 2013), Hans van Maanen merged both styles and expanded them into three weights. The sample shows the lightest weight of Wilke Kursiv Swash which stays close to the original.
Not to be confused with the italics of Wilke (1988).
